"love on top," but nowadays this can get some traction. I'd push this if I were her record label.

and 'Love On Top' can get traction because it's Beyoncé.

This song sure as hell ain't gonna be the one to break Janelle Monae.

But I like it a lot - esp the layered vocals that follow Miguel's verse

Straight nod to/rip of Prince (drums remind me of Beautiful Ones, as does the spoken section near the end), but she pulls it off pretty well - I played it several times in a row, had it stuck in my head last night

I still don't understand why she won't let Bruno & Phill just write her a damn hit... this middling shit ain't gonna cut it...

Very few folks have the songwriting chops bruno & phil have,, they just need to come to terms with that and share some publishing..

you should probably write her a hit. she would love one from you i'm sure. since she obviously wants someone else to put words in her own fucking mouth -- which is why she writes and co-produces her own songs. and you have a lot of experience.

I have to co-sign on the heavy Prince influence.

It sounds like a sex jam that's strangely asexual. Not bad though.

Janelle isn't over singing and keeps her cool, though neither one of them bring anything to the track, IMO if Alicia Keys and Maxwell had have done this on their duet and made a EP out of it, then it might do something.

this track IMO is a album track, however i don't hear heavy radio play per se. better than most of what she has put out though.

Miquel is a vocal featherweight so i can take or leave him.

build up enough buzz on it's own to be a hit without push. But if they push it or even force feed it, it'll become a hit because it's enough substance in it.

I think it's a cool decent track...didn't move me a whole lot, but it is above average for sure.

about 1:30 missing from this track... i get straight forward, but this doesn't explore or get into its own sound nearly as much as it should.. imo.. and also, it's hard buying Janelle on a "romantic" track for me.. i don't know what it is, but something isn't working... and i don't know if it necessarily needs to - i loved (and still love) The ArchAndroid... but also know that you can't keep making that album...

i really like this chick and her talent, but i don't know what to make of her right now.. still looking forward to the album though

She has yet to even top the songs on her demo tape with these 3 singles.

I'm still coppin since it's a double cd. My least favorite songs on her album were the singles so let's see where this goes.

I keep seeing people saying this is Prince-y, but I don't hear alotta
Prince here actually. I think people give Prince credit for shit that
he did alot... like falsetto. People act like Curtis Mayfield, Eddie Kendricks,
Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Phillip Bailey, etc don't even exist.

This track, to me, sounds like one of those "urban" remixes Mariah
used to do in the 90s. Any number of songs from that era could be
the inspiration for this track. Jodeci, Dru Hill, Missy Elliot, Blaque, Subway,
702, Hi-Five, Brownstone, etc could have easily sang this.
