"Drake says Common can't fuck with him (link)"

http://www.complex.com/music/2013/08/drake-common-beef

In XXL's upcoming September issue, Drake speaks on his 2011 beef with Common with writer Thomas Golianopoulos. You can read the excerpt below. Be sure to pick up XXL's September issue with Drake, which hits newsstands August 20.

XXL: You did strike back at Common after he dissed you last year.

Drake: Obviously, the whole tension with that whole camp has been brewing for a long time, and that was the first time someone had called me out personally. I reacted in a very poised way. First of all, I made sure it would run in the club because that's more painful than anything. As opposed to just being on a blog, I wanted to be on a record that you would have to stand around and hear every night for a few months. That was my whole strategy going into that. Instead of sounding hurt and malicious, I wanted to sound fun, get my shit off. Like I said, if it happens again, not that I want it, not that I welcome it, but I'm ready. I really enjoy writing bars, man. I'm not nervous about anybody saying anything to me.

XXL: It seemed like you won, but his last line was good.

Drake: The Canada Dry line? That was epic. I liked it. It wasn't a good line necessarily, but it was funny.

XXL: Did he step over the line when he scorned you for being biracial?

Drake: For you to delve into my mom and my dad's a bitch and all that, you're just reaching for impact moments but the bars aren't really good so it didn't hit me. I never sat back and analyzed that either. I only heard it once, and thought, "I think I came away with the W on that one."

Do you think Drake won the beef? Does it even matter since the two of them later made peace at the NBA All Star Game? Let us know in the comments.

I mean, this is just my opinion. But nothing he said about Com wow'd me. He had a few passing bars and kept it moving. His comment in the above interview about making it in a club banger though, I think is more damning than anything he actually said in the song.

It's all just lame to me. If people are just gonna take shots at each other instead of actually lyrically battling, then they might as well make run for the WWE Championship. But again, that's just me.

and its not even a good look because Common is a Veteren and way past his prime and peak to be starting any beef with anybody at this stage and point.

Drake ain't worried about a Cat who while successful didn't get to Drake's cross over lane until a decade into his career and If I'm Common I might be heated and hurt.

alot of Old Heads probably do Hate on Drake because lets be real he was Platinum upon arrival and I mean in a way that not even Snoop Dogg was certified Platinum.

back in the day when Common and Cube had there mini beef they were peers, this is like your daddy coming to your party and trying to start pop locking and taken your friends away from you and being bitter.

and then He counquered Hollywood in front and behind the Camera.

Common had one hot comeback song, meanwhile Cube is arguably an All time top 5 MC whereas to most Common is in the 25-55 range.

Cube is Tim Duncan to Common's Kevin Garnett and you know it ain't even close.

Cube brought the best out of Common on a Mistaken idenity tip about a track, imagine if Common had have never did that comeback track? and COmmon had to link up with Kayne to get some commerical appeal.

Cube it could be argued never got that Prime and Peak era Dr Dre stuff on the real real.

Natural Born Killaz was just a tip of that iceburg that never got into a full freeze.

Nelly was and I agree, however KRS One sounded Bitter and Old coming at Nelly and the Machine and Common sounds even worse coming at Drake because Common linked up with Kayne much in the way Drake is chained at the hip with Lil Wayne and how is COmmon gonna talk when he is still trying to blow up,because lets be real Common is respected and has had some success, however lets not kid ourselves he ain't a household cat and you know deep down he still wants that one big moment.

and notice how he is doing films and other things to keep his brand going because he knows musically he peaked and was played out some time ago.

i mean almost night and day. I mean a Cat from the 80's going in on a Cat coming along in the 90's was night and day where as Common and Drake are more in synch in times because of the COmmercialism of the Genre.

oh KRis felt Nelly was way beneath him and yet he went at him because he knew Nelly was the flavor of the day and also because he knew he would never see Nelly's numbers and Cross over appeal and he felt as a Pioneer of Hip Hop that Nelly outta bow down and the new breed of MC's were popping their own chains and keeping it moving.

when Kris was a New Jack he had a lane and MC Hammer had a lane, now fast forward to a Nelly and those Lines are one and the same and Old School ain't feeling or trying to see that.problem was Nelly had the Universal Ship backing his every Move and making sure he kept that coin coming in.

Common shitted on dude. No complicated lyrics, just straight and to the point. And I think Drake is dope, but replying in an interview like that is ho shit. Shoulda side-stepped those extra opinion/details if he already squashed it with Com.

Now I wanna see a real battle, 'cause his arrogance is jarring.

Common destroyed Drake lyrically, had Drake crying cause he knew he was sweet and Drake was scared to say his name in a song. It wasn't even close, Common demolished him.
