"GZA & Jeru are the SAME MC...."

GZA & Jeru are the same type MC to me. They have great lyrics, classic LP during mid 90's and boring style. So.......

1. Are they similar to you?
2. Who is the better MC?
3. Liquid Swords vs Sun Rises in the East
4. Who has the overall better albums?
5. Random comment about them..

Me:

1. Yes
2. Not sure...about a tie to me.
3. Again...can go either way..both classic
4. Jeru to me. I like Wrath of The Math better than any GZA album outside of Liquid Swords
5. see initial comment

Peace

That's an insult to Jeru comparing him to ODB. This man had focused lyrics like GZA & not that bullshit ODB was doing.

What contribution did ODB really make? What did he do that we are still feeling today? There were characters before and after him.

Jeru wouldn't be able to grab a mic in a park jam, Dirt could control a crowd.

Dirt's two albums>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jeru's first two (which were more Preem anyway, as we saw from all the forgettable tripe since, Guru shits on Jeru too) before you start even getting into his role in one of rap's all-time best collectives, hi-wire circus act persona or many of the classic songs he was featured outside that.

Fucn shit with these clowns and their ODB revisionism.

Dude was a star. He wasn't on Mariah or Pras' hits for no damn reason. He has three of the most memorable rap/hip hop tv moments with the MTV segment on him getting food stamps, the grammy interruption, and him wylin on TRL during the height of "Ghetto Superstar".

Return to the 36 is a CLASSIC, and has not been duplicated in any form, and Nigga Please was good and spawned another lil hit with "Got My Money"; which was Kelis' first break

Dirty mashed up Dolemite, Rick James and 5% ideology as if he was making a ham sammich

What Jeru do again, ohh that's right make "Come Clean"

Plus basically launched the Neptunes' early career on that 'Diary Of A Madman'-ass album.

>Dirty mashed up Dolemite, Rick James and 5% ideology as if he
>was making a ham sammich
>
>What Jeru do again, ohh that's right make "Come Clean"

Yup, which at least 60% of the credit for that goes to Preem.

Oh & the 'Crooklyn' joint is a classic too, due to (in order): Premier, Chubb Rock (easily the most memorable verse) & then a toss-up with Ace/Jeru.

When Dirty's talking about feds tapping him & putting chips in his crib, he's a wacked-out idiot (meanwhile it was later revealed the FBI actually *was* monitoring him).

But when Jeru says 'chips that power nuclear bombs, power my Sega' he's kicking knowledge.

That shit was the lamest technology commentary going until Styles P asked 'does a computer, have an astrology?' on Rising Down.

I'm glad my adolescence was shaped by Chuck, KRS, Ra & Kane.

They actually got me looking into some things & reading books that I might not have gotten to until later.

But I will proudly proclaim the following to be true: Anybody over the age of 16 that actually gets 'educated' or 'learns' from rap records is a halfwit.

The object of this or any form of music first & foremost is too entertain & express yourself in a creative fashion.

If you touch on some unspoken truths to make the personal universal or shed light on another human's perspective, cool.

But anyone trying to act like these 'croutons on a futon', 'vanacrobatics', 'mental stamina', 'Psychokinetic forces proceed to smash in your cerebellum' motherfuckas back in the mid-90's were somehow existing on some higher artistic plane or should somehow be taken more seriously than Cam'ron are the smartest, dumbest walking......they medullarulacomputas ain't 'putin.

Dog Shit was far more entertaining & made much more sense than the wack double-talk message of 'Da Bichez'.

Just be happy Premier made that chinese-water-torture-beat that blew are minds & fade into bolivian while Dirt's legend lives on.

yall way too foamy mouthed & passionate about using an odb vs jeru comparison as a stand in for your need to prove...uh...something about yourselves

do yall sit back & read the shit & be like, hmmmm maybe im going a little too hard with this & its not really about these rappers, its about me proving myself via "proper" hiphop fanhood?

doesnt seem a bit hypocritical & overboard?

but go on, you guys are better rap fans & know the real deal on that fascist steez while the rest of us just blindly pick any rappers we like bc we're deluded fools who think jeru is being literal & humorless when he talks about the chip in his sega

The only comparison between the two is you can tell they are well read and use big words in their raps.

I don't think GZA is boring at all. I don't personally think Jeru is boring but I can see how some people can find his style to not be as exciting.
>
>1. Are they similar to you?

Not really. I would compare GZA more to Rakim or Nas while Jeru isn't on that level.

>2. Who is the better MC?

GZA
>3. Liquid Swords vs Sun Rises in the East

I love both of those albums.

>4. Who has the overall better albums?

Liquid Swords but it's close for me.

GZA is far superior MC but Jeru made 2 really great albums that have stood the test of time. The Sun Rises might be my favorite Premiere produced album.

>1. Are they similar to you?

No

>2. Who is the better MC?

GZA by a mile. He may have a "boring" delivery but if you look at his rhyme-patterns and lyrics, he's SO much better than Jeru. He may not be flashy but he's sharp; he would never insert a line like "What will our children become without proper guidance?" without rhyme and reason and rhythm like a certain other mc.Jeru may have better "content" in the sense that he's more "conscious" but I don't care about that-Genius lyrics are better written, the rhyme-pattenrs are better, no awkwardness etc.; I even like his voice more and it's not exactly the most charismatic.

>3. Liquid Swords vs Sun Rises in the East

Liquid swords but I dig both those albums; the latter mainly for the beats whereas the former is a killer combination of stellar beats *and* rhymes.

>4. Who has the overall better albums?

I stopped following Jeru after the shit third album and GZA after "Below the surface" so I can't comment.

LIQUID SWORDS one of the best lyrical showcases ever

GZA

I"m offended by this and GZA is lightyears ahead of Jeru...Jeru was really blessed by Primo more than folks say Guru was..I'll take Guru over Jeru anyday..

GZA is one of the greatest lyricist we have encounter.

I couldnt say I'd be interested. GZA appeals to me when he's with his brothers.

When he's solo with no wu features he's just as boring as Jeru.

And Jeru (and Chubb) has one of my favorite most easily quoted verses on there. "Subliminal hypnotism and colonialism leaves most niggas dead or in prison" just rolls off the tongue and has that chilly unfiltered truth to it. I just love that song. Point blank period.

>1. Are they similar to you?
Not particularly. GZA's style was all about precision, Jeru's delivery was much much staccato and off quilter. He even said it himself. "I perfected my drunkard style like Sam Seed"
>2. Who is the better MC?
I always preferred Jeru's flow/delivery, but GZA probably has the edge lyrically.
>3. Liquid Swords vs Sun Rises in the East
Liquid Sword by a nose. But, Sun Rises had the better singles.
>4. Who has the overall better albums?
I haven't listened to a Jeru album since Wrath of the Math, so I can't really say.
>5. Random comment about them..
Both were big talents, but needed the right production to shine. Sun Rises and Liquid Swords benefited from all time great producers at their creative peaks, and the MCs never quite sounded the same as they started working primarily with other producers.

But since we on the topic, Guru would be higher on my list than GZA. He has a better discography. However, GZA is a more skilled rapper than Guru.
