Shotgun & Sleek Rifle might be better than any Black Milk solo. Not to mention NIM.

Interested to see where Black goes with this one.

...but I'm not hyped or eager to hear it, it's so much new music out that I dig that I hardly get a chance to hear it often that I'm cool with not being eager to hear something that's not out yet; especially something that I'm not sure I'm going to be into.

Now if you had said, "Black Milk has produced two new songs for Pharoahe Monch" then I would be so hyped up that I would be begging for a leak of those two tracks.

Most of it has been mad lukewarm and, what I've heard of this album, it looks to be in the same vein.

I REALLY don't understand how he didn't become a star after Caltroit. Maybe Bishop's displacement from Aftermath affected that opportunity.

Anybody else remember when Bishop was laughing at Joel Ortiz and others for getting tossed from the Aftermath roster? Hindsight is 20/20 like a mug..

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

It's not that he can do no wrong, but ever since Tronic, it seems I'm always going to be checking for his albums and albums with his production on it.

I do also recognize that he also has a high potential for making somewhat boring music.. I think we've heard glimpses of it, but for me.. so far he's been consistently somewhere between solid and great.

I'd rather listen to some shit like Operation: DOOMSDAY for the millionth time than try to convince my 28 year-old self that "riches and bitches" over an average beat is worth my brain space.

I ride for Black Milk but I also refuse to lower my expectations.

Especially when there's countless hours of crazy jazz/R&B/rock from years past, a couple decades worth of timeless hip-hop, and all the new house/electronic music that sits on my hard drive.

Again - I bought the Synth or Soul wax just as a show of faith. Listened to it once and filed that shit away for a rainy day. I have no problem giving my money to dudes I like, but I also don't have a problem criticizing them if it's not moving me like that (see: Danny Brown).

I'll continue being an idiot, I guess.

I expect some nice beats from Black on NPNP, and I'll assure you - anything *remotely* touching the level of MF Doom on the mic will have me coming back to this thread with a mouth full of crow.

You guys are funny though. I'll give you that. Doom and Black Milk's rhyme styles being placed on the same level - LOL that's some good shit.

Now, he isn't the world's greatest but he has a nice presence and he's definitely not corny. I'd probably give him a rating of a B as an emcee.

My only thing is that I feel he's moving backwards, production wise. The stuff I heard on AOTY was superb and I felt that album could have been a minor hit if they had put Distortion and Oh Girl out as singles.

But, I feel like he's gotten lazy on the boards lately, ESPECIALLY on Synth or Soul and everything I've heard off this new release.

I hope it's just a phase.

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

...that he's gone backwards, but that's what happens when you employ a live band and then go back to keeping it simpler. it would be like the roots going back to the illadelph halflife style now. that being said, "synth or soul" is definitely growing on me. not sure how old the beats are, but they're definitely quality

Because, although Tronic didn't have as much live instrumentation as AOTY, it surely doesn't sound as sedated as the new stuff I've heard. Neither was Popular Demand OR Caltroit.

Couldn't agree more, although I think he's a stronger MC than folks want to admit but he tends to stay in one safe pocket.

"Oh Girl" was as perfect a single record than any and it had the right mix of all of what AOTY was going for and more.

Yeah he's taking it back to his roots when he should have kept it moving forward with the live band approach.

Yup. He doesn't experiment with flows very much, but, that one flow is tight like spandex on a fat chick.

Yes! But I think someone on the label probably felt that releasing that as a single would "alienate" his core audience.

Yessir. Although, I can maybe understand why he took it back to just him, an MP and some synths, though. That live band stuff is quite expensive and I'm sure the label spent that much hoping he would do decent numbers and that expense would be recouped.

AOTY was too much of him show off his chops. The two songs I've heard are definitely sound like he's back making shit that knocks.
