the infamous is a top 10 hip hop album IMO. I don't care about anything mobb deep did after murda musik though. Its almost depressingly worse. prodigy has had a crazy fall off in the rhyme department......

not classic

it was already slighlty noticable that prodigy was regressing as an MC IMO. I'm probably nit picking but whatever. Obvoiusly not as bad as what was to come but still

Prodigy is still one of my favorite MCs but its gotten to the point to where I almost like to see his 90s self and his post 90s self as two different people. I listen to Hell on Earth/The Infamous religiously

also all the people that said g unit ruined mobb deep were talking out of their ass, mobb deep ruined mobb deep

I seem to can't go a month without hearing some Mobb Deep tunes, and their catalog is pretty deep as well as their unreleased/demo catalog too.

People love throwing that word Legend around and then when challenged on it they try and find some kind of qualifier....well they are a Hip Hop legend or they are East Coast legends or they are Queensbridge legends. How about they are a dope duo that has some great songs and a pretty good catalog? That's what I'd say about them:

1. Are they legends as a group?

No. Run DMC, Public Enemy, Wu Tang, Outkast..those are legends. They changed the game. Mobb Deep is a just a good Hip Hop duo.

2. Is Prodigy as legend solo? No way, no how.

Where does Havoc rank among beat makers? He's pretty good and perfect for what Mobb Deep was..nothing "legendary" though.

3. What is your favorite Mobb Deep song?

Survival Of The Fittest

4. What is your favorite Mobb Deep album?

The Infamous

5. Random Mobb Deep comment

The Infamous is a classic album & Hell On Earth is a damn good album. They represent that dark, gritty, "dun dun" sound of 90's NY street rap to me. If there was a gangster film set in NY Mobb Deep would be the soundtrack to that.

Agree. Too many 'classic' this and 'goat' that. They were good. I kinda equate them to the Beatnuts, as far as how good, popular and impactful they were.

Man how many times has the infamous been scratched on other records? That album alone puts them in the Hall of Fame. The Infamous/Hell On Earth were one of hip hop's great one-two punches.

I can't even knock anyone that called them legendary

I leaned moreso towards HOF'ers than legends because a legend (IMO) directly influences others with their style. I don't think they influenced nor where the first to do what they were doing. They were just very good at it and for the most part stayed in their lane

So they have hiphop HOF credentials and should definitely be in that category, but me personally wouldn't call them legendary

I agree, I'd say they are in the Hall of Fame but they're not in that upper echelon, Jordan-Magic-Bird level of the HOF, they're down with like Dolph Schayes and Joe Dumars and shit

I never listen to anything they made after Hell on Earth except select tracks, but Infamous + Hell On Earth is like a moment in time, those are landmark east coast 90's classics and they will live on because of those.

Mobb I can ALWAYS play and they are definitely a fav of mine too...there was a time that I was consistenly copping Mobb albums off the strength of their consistency

One of the few things about Mobb is that their radio hits never sounded like radio hits but got the party jumpin' and they didn't deviate from their style to make them. And for the most part, 80-90% of their album(s) would have tracks on par with the radio hits...so buying a Mobb Deep album it would be rare for me to just like ONE song...at the very least I'd like a good 60-70% of the album.

Redman and Black Moon also have that effect on me too (that's a different discussion though)

They are one of several Hip-Hop groups that made one great album (=the Infamous in this case) but didn't do much good shit afterwards (NO, I don't like "Hell on earth" at all outside of a few songs-sue me!). Theonly reason they got a hang when the likes of, say, Black Sheep didn't is because of the era.

As mc's they are terminally boring with that whole "Yo dunn" drugdealing schtick delivered in a dull way which was fresh for one album (barely). Havoc as a producer was the RZA light and unremarkable. "Infamous" was cool because the drum-patterns still had some spunk but by the next album, it was all fettuchini cheese.

Honestly, give me MOP over these dudes any day of the week...

Mr. Cee best of Mobb Deep
Mobb Misses pt. 1
Mobb Misses pt. 2

Those three tapes have all the best Mobb Deep material that never appeared on a retail album. Mobb Deep only had about 4 years of greatness but during that 4 years they made like 5-6 albums worth of really good material.
