He seems stuck or pandering to wierdo technical tricks and talk about sex and drugs DB. I know (or hope) the album won't be like this, but in the past the leaks and singles were indicative of were the LP was going and this is not where I hope the lp stays.

The punchlines and jokes are just that damn good that people over look the other shit

I read Baldwin, Morrison, or Foucault for that. I listen to rappers to convey feeling and emotion of exaggerated or personal experiences / identities through technical mastery or undeniable style. At times it can be profound, but mostly it is not. Its an immediate or visceral experience.
From 09-12 Danny Brown has created damn near 30-40 songs I LOVE listening to, whether it be about pussy, drugs, drug sales, eating ramen noodles, are using heath ledger or martin lawrence for punchlines. He is a FANTASTIC rapper

It's going to be pretty polarizing. Seems the two Danny Browns are even more distinct and separate personas on this record. In XXX you would have a track like Blunt After Blunt that had both druggy and hardcore Danny vibes...nothing like that here..it's either super ultra serious dark hood tales and SUPER DOOPER TURNT UP TRRAAAAAAAP
Ill say this much tho; I think the trap chasing beats are a little 'too' on point now and while dope, are more more aligned to whats happening in that world then those quirky and left field beats in XXX..it's stuff that you wouldn't be surprised at MMG rapping over and thats a shame. And I am primarily a fan of THAT Brown.
Funny enough, his songwriting in 'regular' Danny Brown mode has improved(also the beats). The track with Charlie XCX(!?!) while lyrically one of his weaker efforts could pass for one of Lamar's conscious crossovers like A.D.H.D or Swimming Pools.
