Lyrics = Mecca

Production = Tie

Therefore, I gotta go with Mecca.

Pete was just a little better at production by then. I love both albums though.

While it's good, "Main ingredient" is a bit too smooth and laidback overall for my tastes and i tend to view the beats on that record as the blueprint for a certain production-style I know a lot of "heads" like but which personally isn't really my thing.

That being said, there are lots of great songs on "main..." and I like how "soulful" and "emotionally resonant" it sounds; still, not really my favorite type of Hip-Hop. Actually, I might even prefer the somewhat more primitive (well, compared with the albums) "All souled out" EP.

"Mecca..." is a borderline classic to me but suffers a bit from being too long and a bit monotonous in a bad way (CL Smooth's rhyming style didn't really lend itself to the mammoth-length of their two albums); like it's too much of an undeniably good thing. Still, it's a killer...

Mecca's length & creeping monotony are what keep it at 4 1/2 mics instead of 5
