Simplicity speaking, I feel that it was changed because of search engines. Some search engines can consider the hyphen as a minus sign, especially if someone makes the mistake of spelling the name as "Jay -Z" (without quotes). The results would come back as Jay. Makes sense to me, especially since producers are now crediting themselves with either their website name or Twitter handle (Produced by SALAAMREMI.COM was the first time I saw this trend on 'Life is Good').
