"so Jay Z ain't held to MJ's standards of working with who is happening?"

now obviously Jay Z couldn't carry Michael Jackson's Ole Jerri Curl Activator bottles, however Lay Z gets a Pass for doing the same le Formula and MJ switched his thing up and He made it work. i ask because the Camel rides with the same guests and producers and nobody says nothing about that turkey.

Is this just a diss Jay-Z thread? Of course Jay-Z name should never be mentioned with MJ. I also agree his formula is lazy now but he still is one of the best overall MC's who ever did it.

peace

The Black Album was the last time Jay-Z had any bit of anything to offer and even that album album wasn't all that to me. He's gotten over in a major way with average talent. But then again, he's always been average in my opinion.

The other thing is there aren't any new mcs or rappers trying to raise the bar and do something different. Everyone just kind of kisses each other's asses instead of having of trying to trail blaze and bring something to the game. These niggas are just riding each other's hype and on some "monkey see, monkey do" type shit.

Reasonable Doubt - Followed the mid-90s NYC formula that worked for Big and Nas
Vol 1 - ran with the Life After Death formula
Vol 2 - ran with the Ruff Ryders
Vol 3 - ran with Timbo and got the southern MCs on board
Dynasty - ran with the Neptunes
Blueprint - one time he got newcomers but its been said by Ye that the beats were modeled after Supreme Clientele
BP 2 - All-inclusive, Neptunes, Timbo, Ye and Just, southern MCs back
Black Album - Neptunes and Timbo again with Ye and Just as well
Kingdom Come - Ye, Just, Dre
American Gangster - went back to the Puff fam but this was unexpected at that point
BP 3 - Ye, featured the hottest MCs and followed the popular sound of the time
MCHG - back with Timbo, Neptunes and Swizz

Jay is always the second in line and hops on whatever is hot.

...for production on his album cause it's only one producer I can think of (that's not an underground producer) that you might be thinking of and that's AraabMuzik, but other than that who are these other kats you're referring to, and if so do you even think that their style of beats would've matched with Jay-Z's flows?

that insisting on working with "who is happening" eventually comes off as a desperate bid for continued commercial and popular relevance, to the detriment of your own art. I honestly have a little more respect for those who continue on their own path regardless of whether the trends in pop music have blown by them. Not much is more embarrassing than a guy 20 years past his prime collaborating with a young up-and-comer when musically they don't have anything in common.

This isn't a hard-and-fast rule, of course. But some albums just stink to high heaven of a has-been trying to find a hit single. Seldom are those collaborations equal in worth to either artist's better material.

typical turkey gotta throw a shamless dig when it wasn't even needed, however you turkeys are past the pull date on that because Jay and Kellz stopped working together 9 years back.

now Jigga works with Linkin Park, Kayne, Beyonce, Rhianna and Timberlake.

it ain't like it ain'ta legit question?

Jason Whitlock linked them together in terms of linking business.

Jay Z is seen as one of the most important Hip Hop Acts ever and the way he pushes his albums etc.. make them a grand statement.

now he ain't seeing no Michael Jackson or Janet Jackson for that matter, however his base and the way he promotes his brand and the way he attracts the whose who of the now would then only loan that comparrsion in said terms.

and i can't no Lay Z, however i see how this is playing itself out.

i mean the cat has more number 1 pop albums than Elvis Presley and he stays with a hit and works with folks who are hot and happening and he positions himself to be talked in said company as if you can't see what he is doing?

and think about this, if that turkey can make it another 3-4 years he will still be around 2 deacdes after pac and Biggie died and somehow history will talk about him beyond Hip Hop and he also is battling agsint Kayne and the cross over dream with different stakes.

Jason should steer clear from writing about music culture....I got criticism for Jay...But not for who he works with....

Besides, it's not exactly like Timberlake and Timbaland are new acts...These guys been around for 15 years...Hell, Timbaland been in the spotlight since the mid 90's.So working with the same guy that has worked with Charlie Wilson and Snoop is not at all a big deal...

And yeah...Jay ain't MJ...He needs to do those things (Coldplay, ect...) to stay relevant....Mike is Mike...Dude is a God...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

timberlake hit solo in the past decade and big just as jay's wifey. and timberland fell off until he got with timberlake, don't act like timberland wasn't on a milk carton for a minute?

charlie wilson did them hooks and rolling with Snoop upwards til he hit pay dirt on his solo career.

however don't act like Bey, timbo, pharell and timberlake aren't super friends and whomever else was left by the curb as a bone that jay didn't take a bite off.

jigga plays politician and he plays it quite well and all i said he would get a MJ compare off this. naw he ain't no MJ nowhere near, however playing the political roll of old and new and selling it with what is hot and happening and lets be real and no offense to LL cool J whom i still feel is the GOAT rapper, he couldn't pull what Jay Z does with the super friends through the years.
rolling with samsung and the whose who of today no other MC goimg today got his pull like that, his buzz is still so strong on it that folks done forgot Ye's new one just dropped 3 weeks back, thats gangsta
