So I just started listening to this shit, and I think I was aware of it, but didn't realize just how much I was in love with it till I started youtube prowling. Everything I hear is just fantastic. It reminds me alot of that french jazz-fusion band Cortex that Madlib samples from alot.

I'm going to learn it eventually (have already learned spanish and because of that I can read/understand a lot of portuguese)
if you want any more recs, hit me up or just search for albums from brazil on my rateyourmusic (there is a "music map")
some of the records I posted are some of my favorite albums of all time (Gal Costa, Joao Gilberto, Novos Baianos for example). things like MPB, Tropicalia, Bossa Nova and Samba from the 50s,60s and 70s really blow my mind. the way brazillians blended genres to create their own sounds was amazing

If you want a good overview, check out Soul Jazz's three comps: "Bossa Nova Rise of Brazilian Music in the 1960s", "Bossa Jazz: Birth of Hard Bossa Samba Jazz" and the awesome "Brazil Bossa Beat: The Elenco Record Story".
The Elenco one is good because a lot of those discs from that label are hella rare but now are getting digital reissues. Edu Lobo "Cantiga De Longe" is sort of a switch up from his earlier stuff. "Edu & Bethania", Nara Leao "Serie Elenco" for a good intro to the tragic star, as well as Baden Powell's stuff for some stellar guitar work.
For a more MPB style, check Quarteto Em Cy's self-titled and MPB-4's "Deixa Estar". The vocal harmonies of the two groups (who ended up working a lot together) is fantastic. "Beco do Mota" is the jam.
As he has had such a dominant career from the 60's and 70's, I'd also take a look at some of Sergio Mendes' later 80's/90's stuff, say "Brasileiro" with it's deep examination between Brasil and it's African roots. Big drums on that one.
