The chorus riff is fantastic, but this is a pretty crappy move on Francis' part.

She only wrote/sung a small handful of songs and while I actually find her bassplaying vERY distinct and a huge part of their sound, it's not like it's some rocket science; it was an "idea"-approach to bassplaying, ''anyone'' can do that shit.
Anyway, I haven't heard the song yet but I'm looking forward to checking it out, I'm too busy playing King Crimson and Curtis Mayfield this week...

I dig Kim Deal and the Breeders as muchc as the next man but still, she was not THAT important...
Of course, I'm not really a fan of bands reuniting without original members but it's not like Thin Lizzy without Phil Lynott ot even Floyd without Waters (the latter a lesser problem than it seemed; waters partially ruined that band and was a lousy musician. Still, it was *morally* wrong to do it without him. Pixies without Deal is really not on that level)...

It's not an accident that many of The Pixies most popular songs (Where Is My Mind, Gigantic, Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone To Heaven) feature at least in part a Kim Deal vocal, in addition to her being the band's bassist her voice was the perfect solvent to help soften sometimes caustic/shrill whiny sound of Black Francis.
That's also probably why even though Frank Black was a more prolific writer he never had a record that made the impact of the second Breeders' second album.
In fact, I'm half-convinced he picked this exact year to reunite because he was getting jealous about Kim's platinum post-Pixies album after he fired the band getting the '20th Anniversary Reissue/Tour' victory lap & so all the sudden he decides that he's going to actually try to resurrect the Pixies in earnest in the middle of that to force her hand.
That seems like exactly the type of petty, shitty, narcissistic dickhead maneuver that he's been known to pull over the years.

It's alright. A promising step. Hopefully there will be more following this. Black Francis did a solo show in Nashville this May where he played a new composition. Perhaps there is a Pixies (or 3/4ths) version of that coming.

I got an email from the fan club (I didn't even know I was a member of the Pixies Fan Club but I'll be that) for the presale today, took the Thursday 9/12 show at The Mayan downtown.
Never been there & never actually seen The Pixies.
Kim not being there is borderline heartbreaking but fuck it I still expect to be entertained & they made to easy to click a few things to grab a pair just to be safe.
