"Sacrafice an artist to save the world from their shitty knockoffs"

Goal of this game is to rid the world of a bunch of shitty music without the loss of too much greatness, by choosing one artist to have never existed.

So by example, getting rid of Bob Dylan could prevent the world from ever having to hear Ben Harper, but would Hendrix have made three Are You Experienced type albums?

Prince and MJ are easy ones cause there are a lot of shitty knockoffs, but one would be hard pressed to qualify that the loss of all of those is worth losing either Prince or MJ.

Think of it as the anti-thesis of six degrees. Who's the Kevin Bacon of shitty knockoff artists?

or was that boyz II men?
lets eliminate that altogether.

actually, begging is not new.
but whining and doing it without any bass in your voice, is.

let's get rid of everybody that cites them as influences.

I did like Ja Rule, but then I think about how Buckshot changed his flow up after his first album dropped and kind of adopted 2pac's flow especially on that wack ass b.d.i. thug album, but Buckshot is still nice; then you got people who loved Biggie and remember pac was one of his favorites too.

So a lot of good and bad rappers would be gone if pac is sacrificed.

I think most of the shitty 90's rock primarily drew from either Pearl Jam or Alice In Chains or a combo stylistically. Of course, Pearl Jam would probably not have made it without the Nirvana/Seattle-hype but AIC were already a platinum-act even if the Seattle/grunge-connection wasn't stressed before Nirvana made it...

Still, you can't really blame <nirvana for Stone Temple Pilots; that was primarily AIC with some vedder-isms

Not only is he one of the greatest bassists ever, but he's one of the few black
men who gives you a blueprint for how to sing lead with a deep voice. He's too
important.
I recently watched the Tyler interview with Elliot Wilson where Tyler was recounting
a conversation with Pharrell where he expressed to Pharrell that he was insecure
about possibly singing on his album, because his voice is too deep. Pharrell said
"You ever ever heard of Barry White? Isaac Hayes? Go study 'em. Figure it out."

Pharrell could have easily put Larry Graham in there too. To me, him and Lou
Rawls are two cats who used their deeper voices in ways that didn't make them
sound like the typical "guy with the deep voice" if that makes sense.

while I was super hopeful its popularity would fulfill its promise re the revitalization of old-time, instead this mostly convinced a lot of people to play shitty music on old timey instruments.

I swear six months after that movie and soundtrack came out, over ten compilations were made with similar titles "O' Sister", "O' Father", "O' Country", and etc..

I can't front, it's probably good for bluegrass artists to finally get some attention but the idea that they all had to make music on just that vibe of that one soundtrack is just to have one or two songs be on compilations but nobody wanting your album had to get on some bluegrass artist's nerves.

In response to Reply # 0

that the West Coast club sound is back and dominant.

-Soulja Boy Drops "Crank that," goes viral
-Atlanta groups all make catchy songs and videos dancing, trying to capitalize
-L.A. kids see this, do the same, with wack catchy music, but interesting dances (Jerkin)
-L.A. kids keep doing it, some actually get decent
-DJ Mustard and J. Hawk start to make decent quality beats for former Jerkin rappers
-J. Hawk makes Cat Daddy, Mustard makes Rack City and a Cash Money artist (Tyga) makes it a national hit
-2 Chainz gets a Mustard beat, makes an even bigger hit
-Jeezy, B.o.B., Ludacris, French Montana, Plies, Yo Gotti, Wiz Khalifa, and others from outside of L.A. get L.A. producers to make their main singles

So yeah...I honestly feel that Soulja Boy is like the start of that chain, which really began with D4L and Franchize...but their music was much more tolerable.

Are they better than the Lumineers? I haven't heard enough by each band to make a call, however, that "Ho Hey" song is the wackest; like regular "Gilmore Girls/Scrubs"-soundtrack shit butn performed acoustically to give it that authentic, rusty and "emotionally resonant" flavor. Seriously, the swedish hit radio stations I'm forced to listen to sometimes at work has played that song for well over a year now, I don't get it...

Most of my favorite rock-albums of the past 25 years contain at least an audible Sonic Youth influencew; I for one wouldn't want rock without Polvo's "Todays active lifestyles", Royal Trux "Twin infinitives" and "Cats+dogs", Hammerhead's "Duh, the big city" or Fugazi's "Red Medicine" (this one isdebatable but not really) to name a couple. Shit, remove all partial Sonic Youth knock-offs and the only listenable rock after the mid-80's would be hard-rock more-or-less...
