To me, Coast II Coast was the best or at least the most well-rounded and complete album; 21&over was more like a total party. Likwidation is good but too long with too much filler; I liked the efficiency of the first two and I don't think they made the type of Hip-Hop that fit a 60+ minute album.
Still, it's kind of hard for them to win this and i don't even care too much for the first Tribe, I just think Tribe was a much better band even if the liks are underrated and dope as fuck.
I like Beatnuts first full-length more than any Tribe-record though...

Their material just wasn't as strong, although they had some great cuts and could rap dope as hell. Even Tash's solo material is arguably as good as Q-Tip's first effort..."Rap life" and "G'z is G'z" were bangin.
But even though they had a similar vibe...nothing they made touches "Check the rime" or "Bonita Applebum" or "Scenario." And what hurt them more is that they were in L.A., but weren't closely affiliated with any major crew or heavy hitters that were running the city at the time...so they only got a small niche crowd instead of being major factors.

but even by 92-93, you weren't hearing any of his songs on radio. It's politics as well, of course. You heard Tha Liks songs, usually on the night time shows vs the "4 at 4" countdowns or morning shows that got the most exposure.
It's not at all that they weren't factors...but they were "2nd tier' as a Mistermaxx would say, when L.A.'s rap scene was at it's first or biggest peak. So even some people my age that grew up here can't really tell you much about them, since they didn't have that commercial type impact. Sadly, I'd even think people in HS at my time identify them the most with "Best u can."
