"Rap bragging that doesn't seem all that impressive now"

Remember when rappers use to brag about pushing Jettas and Acuras? List some rap bragging that just doesn't seem all that impressive now when these days cats rap about G4s and Bugattis.

Aka, a thinly veiled "when rap was more relatable" post.

Nowadays every body has at least an XBOX or PS3 in their house, many have both.

On a side note, remember when every rapper on Cribs had a Playstation in their car and it was supposed to be the coolest thing ever? Pretty sure someone put a Dreamcast in their dashboard thinking they were going to play some Sega at a stop sign or something.

image sold it period her as the black Pamela Anderson.

master p and them tanks and other acts.

the cash image is the one that is so corny, contrived and not believeable at all.

when alot of these acts aren't selling no more or are only packing a taco bell store for performances.

The mystique about rap life is gone. Even the most successful ones seem to be

Getting caught up with cute but dumb broads
Supporting a bunch of generally unproductive hanger-ons
Spending a lot of nights out which ages you quickly
Dealing with hordes of fake and selfish people out of necessity
Promoting and eventually getting caught up in an unsustainable lifestyle
Developing some sort of debilitating dependency
Constantly struggling to keep up with new trends

Then you throw in the celebrity pitfalls that aren't specific to rap and it's even worse. Now that family, stability and sleep are big priorities in my life that type of lifestyle doesn't seem like fun anymore.

I grew up reading comic books so I'd generally prefer that these guys present themselves as some type of larger than life anomaly. The main problem I have with the music nowadays is that many of these guys aren't creative enough to separate themselves from the next person doing a similar type of style. At least put your own twist on it like Camron, Currensy, Max B, 2 Chainz, early Young Dro, etc.

pretty much any reference to rims from back then fails to translate as great today.

Actually now that I think about it, me and my cousin were laughing listening to this song only a few years after it came out talking about how 18s were pretty much a joke already.

Infact it never impressed me back in the days and now about rappers having to admit they use to or still sell yayo, weed, that weight, that white power, pills, & whatever slang they use for drugs; so what crackheads and business men sell drugs too but I don't need to hear you spit about it in every verse.

Now them talking about using it is a whole other thing but selling it has been overdone, it adds no shock value to their bragging except to the cops & DEA who take it seriously and rappers got a nerve to be pissed the cops be ready to press charges on them, lol.

then i realized that back in the late 90s rappers were doing the same thing(and people complained about it then too). Maybe it just sounds different because it's mostly down south acts that do it nowadays.

As someone who followed his career he always came across as the furthest thing from materialistic. I understand the character he was playing called for it but even then boasts like this sounded silly. The most hilarious thing about this particular reference is that Sega Genesis was played out (discontinued even) by the time "Thug Paradise" came out. It was clear he was a bit out of touch with the world of materialism.
