"Saw D at HOB Boston Tuesday"

And I can satisfactory put to rest that he is the next Prince or Jesse is seeing Prince on guitar live. GTFOH.. Couple things, D doesn't have the songs to go deep in a show. Period. D is not a guitar player no matter what quest says.. My daugter who is 13 plays better than him. The idea that he wants to riff with Jesse was laughable. Jesse had to dumb down his playing to make it look realistic.. How do you have Pino, Chris amd Jesse in a band and it make no sense? I was literally board. Teh shame here is that when D should have been honing his skills over the last 13 years he wasn't.. He can never, ever, get that time back no matter what anyone on here says. Talented, absolutely, his time has past though.. Thats a tragedy. As far as jesse, why is he playing with D. Two Prince wannabes on stage..crazy.,., can he shred the ax, yep, does it have focus, nope. Prince is so far ahead of both these brothers its not even debateable..

that is all

if you knew your purple history you would know prince pinched off of jesse. prince imo is the better all around artist of the two, however if its guitar i got jesse. i'd rather watch jesse rip it up on stage with some good players, than watch prince playing with mrs roper and the post chrissy snow rejects.

as for d'angelo his time passed sad to say. however an R.Kelly or a Bruno Mars could give him a hit and bring him back.

all it takes is one song.

jesse is like a brother to him and a gudiance for him musically and spiritually. jesse ain't ever going to play with Morris and crew again, that gets ugly always real fast and its about the money.

jesse cool with being a sideman and showing his chops off.

its a good nosetelgia touring act. like in a black greatful dead kind of way.

d'angelo is still a tour draw. that means loot. now when d'amgelo can't even pack a hot wing joint then cats will bail on him.

you gotta have the songs man and this turkey is way to young to be on some Sam and Dave chitlin drive thru blues brother revival.

he ain't even covering material which would showcase his voice.

to the gen pub dude got maybe 4-5 joints they sorta know and then you get 14-15 covers which make you a lounge act.

i expect this cat in 20 years to be on stage covering rhianna's "umbrella" he doesn't even pick anything modern to cover.

R's catelog is like a Bentley's to D'angelo's pacer/pinto combo. maxwell got more catelog than D as well.

d'angelo caught the richie rich bug too much too soon and believed, saved and pasted his hype clippings.

at least terrence trent d'arby didn't stop putting out music, however d'angelo ain't even got a 2nd act like Al b sure had with "secret garden" to roll with and folks been waiting with school lunch tater tot results and no ketchup

when he was posting talking about D being on some Frank Zappa shit and that he was self conscious about showing off his true guitar skills in front of people. There is no way any objective person could see D'angelo even holding a guitar and think "oh this dude is a guitar God". I saw him in LA last year and he never looked comfortable at all holding the damn thing. Especially when you see him standing there next to someone like Jesse or Capt. Kirk or someone who you can tell basically sleeps with their guitar.

As far as Jesse goes he's an amazing guitar player and I'm sure D will benefit some from being around him. I wouldn't in any way rank him over Prince but there's no shame in that.

that Zappa comment probably came after he was in a studio waiting for D for hours & someone reminded him of the 'Break You Off' story mess.

man is worth paying $100 to see.

In music, the special ones are known. Special eras are known.

No need to deny that. He's in that zone.

Cause if he wasn't doing shows, people would be crying: "oh, if only he would go on tour again........."

I was at the show in Toronto last night and all I can say is that he blew my mind in regards to how strong he is as a guitar player.

By the way, that intro to Feel Like Makin Love was insane. Those guitars!!!!

I'm so stoked about the new record - this guy is super bad on guitar as a rhythm player.

Hm, it's interesting that you give him props for his rhythm guitar playing. I think that for the most part, there were expectations that he'd come out with Lead Guitar chops, but that doesn't seem to be his vein at all. Glad that you enjoyed the show though--I dug him when he was out at the LA House of Blues last year.
