Their best album yet. It's one for the headphones, whoever produced this put their foot into this album. Ya Hey is a bit annoying, but everything else is pure gold. Unbelievers will get stuck in your head on the first listen, and Hannah Hunt is one gorgeous song.
Probably the indie pop/rock album of the summer, will drink a lot of beers outside to this.

I love the fact that they went this route. "Finger Back" is the first VW song that i've openly disliked on first listen, otherwise i think the album is exquisite.

and the production is fantastic...sounds much warmer, more analog than previous VW
but i'm just not a huge fan of the direction they've moved into. i look to VW for fun, uptempo summer music and this album's pretty much a (beautiful) downer

It's completely shutdown my music listening. I keep trying to get to the Acid Rap CD but no luck.
This thing is surreal. It's as if there's two listening experiences available here - if you want to get heavy with the lyrics and immerse yourself in them you can do that but if you want to just throw this on in the background while you're working and nod your head to some really great sounds and melodies you can do that too.
This is stick to your ribs pop music for the 2010s and I haven't been this rocked by an album in a very long time.

Lyrically, I definitely prefer mature brooding Ezra. But yeah amazing, amazing album.
Ezra sounds really great, like the production is perfect & not overpowering so that his voice can shine.
The only head-scratcher for me is "Hudson" & I really love the production on the record but just seems like a filler song or just a New Yorky addition, Idk.

I also like Everlasting Arms & really like Ya Hey
but those first 6 tracks are a murderers row.
I could lose Finger Back, Worship You and Young Lion (which is barely there). They're not terrible but they're just kinda meh. Haven't really formed an opinion on Hudson yet.
I'd say it's their best album, followed by the debut, and Contra a distant 3rd. I wasn't really crazy about Contra, sounded too much like Graceland-era Paul Simon on a lot of songs. I fucking love 'Diplomat's Son' though.
