I kinda "get" Lil Wayne as he was pretty good when he was like 14. Currensy is the one that baffles me. He's just super boring..same with Wiz.

Dude is one of the best beat pickers in music and consistently drops great music.
Why not just say "they ain't my type" instead of being assholish and basically putting down people who are into those artists as if we have bad taste in music for liking currensy or drake, etc.

not because they have "less tastes in music" but because what he does takes a while to catch on to... and i'm not trying to say "i 'get it' and you don't!"... but when i first started listening to the guy (which was ONLY because i heard Mos Def produced "Breakfast"), it was more because i was a pothead law student and a lot of his vibes appealed to me... what made me a true fan was when i realized how talented and varied he is in his flows and rhyme schemes.
i can totally see people thinking he's boring... he doesn't have a ton of flair to his voice or persona... doesn't rap about "exciting" things.. goes about rap like most go about their 9-5s... and a lot of his shit is over chilled out instrumentals.. i completely understand.. *however* while his lyrics won't come off as "deep" to the casual listener, his body of work adheres to a distinct philosophy and he finds ways of being inspirational w/o coming off like a cornball..
i think he also does a great job at rapping about the same shit all other rappers rap about, but has his own way of saying it (and given that i've got just over 400 tracks of his on my itunes, released in the last 4.5 years, i'd say that's a feat in and of itself and i'm always surprised that he hasn't run out of rhymes lol).. one thing i appreciate is him saying some pretty slick shit while using similes sparingly.. he paints pictures/explains his life and philosophies in a unique way.. and for those who follow his music and pay attention, he's constantly switching his flows up.. a lot of times the rhymes are coming in on unorthodox beats and hidden in his nonchalant delivery.. i've found that once that aspect clicks for people, it REALLY clicks and he's got a new fan..
and the most apparent shit is his ear for beats (and no style is out of his range), catering to his consumers (i only had to pay for 7 of 26 projects i have from him and i know he'll deliver on the NUMEROUS projects that he promises), and his consistency... maybe not every verse is a classic, but i can count on my 2 hands how many times i said to myself, "that was a weak verse".. oh and also, if you have a car and beautiful surroundings (like miami), he's got the best cruising music out there..
if i had one personal "gripe," it would be that he generally makes "tracks" and not "songs"... but even then, i'm not sure if he needs to be a story rapper on a song-by-song basis... he's more of a catalog rapper where his body of work IS the story... there's a narrative that strings together all of his work in chronological order.. from "i'm gonna make it" to "i'm making it" to "i'm continuing to build" to "don't get into it if you're not going to bring your like-minded team with you" to "hey, use me as an example in whatever your industry is and come up with me"..
maybe all of that is a had-to-be-there situation? who knows... in any case... some of my favorite tracks for any would-be converts:

I can sort of see why Fabolous might be appealing to most cause I did like songs from his first two albums but the others listed you hit the nail on the head, I think these days people like ignorant music more than hearing anything that would make them think (oh shit he just said a metaphor with witty wordplay, MY HEAD IS HURTING...AAAARRRRRHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!), smh.

I've grown to dig some of Jeezy's shit (he's gotten MUCH better as an MC)...Fab has always been harmless to me...He's OK and says some slick shit that I can ride with...
But I must admit....Beyond normal music nerd shit, I tend to look down on folks who rep for the likes of Gucci, Flocka, Max B, and Chief Keef (especially if those fans/music critics/writers happen to be white...I know it's hardcore...But hey...it is what it is...I loathe that shit...And I give them the side eye for bigging that shit up...)
As for all things Dip Set, beyond a few songs here and there, I never had any use for them.....I always thought Cam was slumming it with that crew...
GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....
And I know it isn't just here that he gets praise, but I've just never really liked his music. There are a few songs that are cool-- great, even-- but altogether I've just never really liked Jay-Z.
