if so, i'm wonderin' if you can give me some pointers i'm comin' from usin' logic and i wanted to finally make use of it, since i've been sittin' on it for years i have both ableton suite 8 and suite 9 i've been watchin' the youtube videos and whatever guides i can find online
but it's not very many hip hop sample based guides that are good and easy to follow along
i'm basically wonderin', what's the easiest way to chop vinyl samples up, assign them to a drum pad, and manipulate them, triggerin' them with a drum pad?
i'm sure everybody has a different way, and i'm tryin' to find what works best for me.
thanks

record sample onto audio track, double click it. At the bottom of the screen you will see the sample along with parameters on the left and the waveform on the right.
above the waveform there are yellow markers. these are to indicate moving points for your sample. You can lock them to the grid or turn that off and slide them around wherever. This is Live way of timestretching.
The parameters to the right adjust things like the warp (time stretch), pitch, loop, etc.
make or go to a midi track and add a drum rack. this will create a virtual MPC pad layout.
drag your sample to a pad and you're done!
note: drum rack lacks the ability to zoom in on a sample, and samples in Ableton work in a non destructive way, meaning you could be using only a few seconds of a longer sample, but unless you consolidate the portion you want drum rack will emport the entire sample highlighting only the region you dragged in.
Normally, I just stretch the sample and leave it there, then I add drums. I keep the MPC Renaissance, 2500, 2000xl, & Maschine if I wanna hit pads.

and something else triggers along with it! the lay out takes some getting used ot i understand the scenes vs the arrangement view finally but like, once i chop a sample, i don't really get how to use it like once i get the warp markers to where i want to chop i'm not sure how to sequence it up, or what to use to trigger it the drum rack is a bit confusing

is there another track armed to record? usually thats what that means.

That feature is clutch for chopping samples, especially if you're using an MPC type drum pad.
When I've got a sample, I just mark it up with warp points where I want the chops to be, then right click -> Slice to MIDI, and it maps everything directly onto a drum rack.

so you can just make beats MPC style. I use an MPD 24 controller and set this up once and it worked pretty well. I think this is the tutorial I used, but it's been a while:

i'm starting to understand it a bit more some stuff it does automatically which threw me off wasn't used to that, havin' to do it myself so it confused me but i got it now

but anyone else using their ipad for production? i think im done with using computers.. with apps like beatmaker2, alchemy synth, impaktor, dm1, ipolysix through audiobus into cubasis i think its really capable of some amazing things

I've used both and would have to disagree if you also own/use an APC w/ the hacked firmware patch. Using the patch you can trigger samples using the 64 pads which makes it a powerful device. Sampling/chopping is definitely more streamlined in Maschine but sequencing, effects processing, and overall creative ability is more enhanced w/ Ableton IMO.
