he was spitting his ass off during that time..if you make a 1.5 take off the silly songs add the 8-mile songs, Stimulate, the source disses you have his best shit hands down.
yea the beats was bland he did too much production then..

1. Eminem Show - one of his best, but production-wise is a bit of a let down 2. Relapse - probably his best LP lyrically, has 2-3 awful songs that should be cut, and is 2-3 great songs from being his best LP. probably his most focused record, thematically. 3. Encore - his most uneven album. Has some great songs that touch on some important topics. Parts of it plays like a great concept record. But overall, there are a lot of really bad songs and ends up being an unfocused mess. 4. Recovery - he finally gets outside production and features. the beats underwhelm and he gives his worst lyrical performance ever. And that's not even the worst part of the album. The worst part is the goddamn yelling. And having a song called White Trash Party.

And if it wasn't that it would've been the beats.
So maybe he was doing us a favor. Like "I'll just make every single aspect of this album as shitty as possible so my long time fans won't have to waffle about whether or not they like it".

Eminem Show, as stated above, might just be Eminem at the top of his form, moreso than the first 2 albums even (and Infinite).
Relapse isn't great, but it's got some nice, newer Dre beats on there, and Em puts on a clinic in rapping (despite the 'voice' many ppl bitched about).

I still can't get over how so many people liked that album. Relapse wasn't awesome but it was a hell of a lot better than that filth. In fact, it made me think Relapse was a relatively brilliant piece of work, which it may be.
