A lot of people like to start from the top and go to the SUPERFUZZ BIGMUFF EP. On CD, and I'm sure digitally, it's bundled up with some other stuff but if you wish to go vinyl, shoot for the EP.
Otherwise: Mudhoney (first album) Piece Of Cake (Reprise/major label debut) My Brother The Cow Tomorrow's Hits Today Since We've Become Translucent Under A Billion Suns
In truth, pretty much everything is good, including their new album, VANISHING POINT. If you like Mudhoney that much, you might as well shoot for Green River as well: Come On Down (EP) Dry As A Bone Rehab Doll
Green River was Mark Arm's band before they collapsed, highly honored and celebrated by fans of Seattle rock in the early to mid-80's, before GRUNGE became a four letter word. Green River also featured Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard, later of Mother Love Bone, and then later of Pearl Jam. When Green River split up, Arm picked up former Green River guitarist Steve Turner, former Melvins bassist Matt Lukin, and the almighty Dan Peters to form Mudhoney. As stated, Ament and Gossard helped form Mother Love Bone with Malfunkshun vocalist Andrew Wood (the influence of Alice In Chains' "Would"). When Wood died, Ament and Gossard created Mookie Blaylock, which turned into Pearl Jam.
If you wish to go further with Mark Arm, I highly recommend The Monkeywrench's CLEAN AS A BROKE-DICK DOG, which also featured Mudhoney's Steve Turner, along with U-Men/Gas Huffer guitarist Tom Price, Martin Bland of Lubricated Goat, and Texas man Tim Kerr (who is not the T/K of the old Portland label T/K, or KC & The Sunshine Band's label TK owned by Henry Stone).
