The lackluster Dre production was the major downfall of the album imo. Lyrically the album was kinda weak too, but I'd argue it was the production that didn't spur the MC's to rap better

The album's got some moments but considering the immense talent involved, it is still a major disappointment.
Dre was clearly unfocused likely because of all the post-Death Row turmoil and shit which was still fresh. Nas has openly admitted that he was hella unfocused on rap at the time so he came mostly lazy which is unfortunate. Foxxy is what she is. AZ and Nature were whatever and I can't really explain why.

Cormega not being involved was criminal too

The issue with the album is the lack of cohesion between the group.
Nas and AZ are only on like 5 songs together.
Nature has a solo and a song with just Dre.
Foxy has a solo.
Wizard has a solo (although that shit was dope).
Nas and Foxy had a song together.
Nore and Canibus were focal points of their respective tracks.
AZ had the closer with Half-A-Mil (r.i.p.)
I knew from the moment I opened the cd and read through the cover on the walk back from the record store that the album was going to be a disappointment.
Regardless though, the album gave us Phone Tap and Executive Decisions.

it would've sold in that era, for sure, but the album wouldn't have been that great because Dre tends to beat a horse to death thematically over an album

the production was horrendous. I thought Nature shined the most on that album and Foxxy wass one of the dopest females rappers ever back then. Even though Nature shined and went in on that album the question remains what if Cormega was there as he was an OG member.
