the song is so wack.

dude has been firing blanks and dropping duds for almost 10 years.
he hasn't produced a top 40 single since 2005.
he drops tons of records and still for reasons unbeknownst to me lands a placement on every top rap album, every year (who's his agent?)
but they pretty much all suck.
imo, he's started his decent on blueprint 2...
which was 10+ years ago.

dr dre, who fell off years ago as well (somewhere in 2005-2006), reduced his output to nothing upon realizing he had nobody to produce hot beats for him any more and that he had taken his "sound" and completely over-saturated the world in the previous 5 years.
and look at what it did for his career since...
he's the richest man in rap music off his reputation selling products, not his present music.

it's time some people step away from the control board and just exist off who they were.
pharrell is a prime example of that imo.

No one's catalog is flawless, but I think Pharrell has aged gracefully - more gracefully than a lot of other producers/artists out there. He makes music he wants to make, with artists whom he respects, usually comes through with quality material, and perhaps most importantly, he doesn't seem to be chasing hit records all the time to recapture his old glory.

He's not producing as much as he has before, and he seems to be focusing on other things, such as his "i am OTHER" initiatives.

I'm pretty happy with where Pharrell is at.

The first article I read about 20/20 was right after suit and tie was released and it was announced Timmy was doing the whole album. The article mentioned as an aside that JT had also been in the studio with Pharrell working on new music that would be for a different, as-yet-unknown project. Later it was announced that there would be a 20/20 part 2 and I just assumed that's where the Pharrell/JT tracks would end up. I couldn't find that article that I originally read, but here's a swipe that proves at least that JT and Pharrell were in the studio together. (This article seems to think the songs are for something else though, but who knows at this point):

When he was making underground rap records he was doing well but when he broke into the top 40 area he had to keep it up and now that he hasn't been charting or making good pop records, he should go back to the underground Noreaga/Clipse type beats instead of trying to make another pop record.
