"Who can save Janet Jackson's career? (or is it a wrap??)"

Full disclosure, I'm a big fan of Penny. Things just ain't been the same since she messed with Midget Man and now that she's married to a billionaire the likelihood of her releasing a new album is pretty slim IMO. But I still have visions of her hooking back of with Flyte Tyme and making another classic. Do you think she could pull it off? I mean damn, J Lo is in the lab with Future for fucks sake and Damita Jo can't get a damn hit?????? Smh. Fuck Mike Will, Hit-Boy or whoever is the hottest in the game right now, Janet+Jimmy+Terry = CLASSIC.

I guess I'm more upset with the fact that she went out with 3 records that were straight trash (with the exception of a few nice album cuts). If The Velvet Rope was her last album, I might be cool with it. But having Discipline be the nail in the coffin fucks wit me.

that could be interesting, however aside from a pop or R&B here and there those Salad days are long gone.

White America is done with her after Her and TImberfake. she may as well have been in a White Bronco and kept on driving because Pop ain't got no love for her.

i will say this though she can still Cake on stage. she can show Beyonce, Rhianna, Keysia Cole adn Alicia Keys how to have a catelog and rock a stage.

but nobody wants her new music or watching her acting like she is posing in "Player's Magazine at all costs.

once she went and worked with jermiane no replay that was a wrap.

Jam and Lewis can't find a Hit even if its burried in Jellybean Johnson's wide hats. sorry but Flyte TIme is OVA and Jam and Lewis are strolling and playing shuffle board in Beverly Hills.

If she is chasing radio plays and mainstream success she should hang it up b/c she has no chance imo. But if she wanted to just make a great album for fans then she could very much do so. To me I think the best sound for her would be to link up with somebody like Blood Orange, Toro Y Moi or Little Dragon. Something electro-ish with elements of 80's R&B and classic house. She'll be able to do her thing, sound current but not piss off too many old fans. Maybe in the minority on that one but I think in today's market and what will sound great that's my pick. B/c today's RnB I don't think will match her style (I mean would her and Frank Ocean or The Weeknd sound good?), neo-soul is gone, hip hop is way too out of reach for her, she could get a big name EDM producer but it'd be so overproduced you'd probably never tell it's Janet so what's the point.

If she did a small intimate tour for the album I think she'd build enough buzz for it to be at least get real attention from music fans instead of forced down the throat advertising.

choosing a more mature image and sound would be GREAT

This would be a great time for her to experiment artistically. I remember her talking about a Brazilian influenced album, that would be interesting to hear

it definitely would fit her voice

She can always go fully into dance music also which would work work

If her brothers can have a successful tour after not doing a REAL concert tour in nearly 30 years AND losing the backbone of their group, Janet can definitely pull off another successful album and tour

I don't want to say her music career is a wrap but the problem is that I think she needs to let Jimmy & Terry go and stop seeking the "hot pop producer" of the moment steeze and just focus on making a good album one track at a time and when she has a nice collection of songs, choose a theme & name of the album, go thru the songs that fit, do a nice sequence of those songs, and release but trying to make an album every year or two is killing her success only cause she feels obligated to give the industry an album.

Her acting career is where she's doing well at, cause of writers, directors, and supporting cast of any movie she's in, you can't go wrong if she picks a good script.

She can still do the "if I'm acting in the movie, I might as well see if they want me to contribute a song to the soundtrack" route too but doing an album these days should be a back-burner idea for now.

As it is, she's nearly 50 years old.

If she can be convinced that she doesn't need to be running around trying to look/act/sing sexual, maybe she could get away with an album of more adult pop records than she's been making.

Only problem is there's no one around to produce those sorts of records anymore. All those folks have burned out or taken their ball and gone home.

I say that because if she made toned-down songs with Jam & Lewis it would sell to the 35+ crowd. Much like the last couple MJB records did.

The downside: It wouldn't make no noise....the singles would get spun on "adult comptmpoary" radio, and those sales would come in extra slow.

Is Janet interested in making records for "old folk"? I don't believe so...much like other 90s singers (brandy,Monica,MJB,Mariah) she's in uncharted waters. I figure they don't wanna end up like Gerald Levert (RIP) even if there's solid money there. They still want those billboard hits and big singles....and perhaps that time is over for them.

My only offer would be a team of Ne-Yo, Stargate with Jam & Lewis. Ne-Yo has an ablity to write songs that young & old get connect with....without being corny. Stargate is consistent & current, add Jam & Lewis handcrafting the music and maybe Janet can pull a hit out of nowhere like Mariah did with "We Belong Together".
