"Did The Neptunes sign Robin Thicke as an answer to JT?"
Wed Mar-20-13 09:42 PM by Deluge

Being that around the same time that they signed Thicke,
they started their Jive boycott and weren't able to work with JT
anymore.

Looking back, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the songs they
did w/ Thicke were initially meant for JT.

i mean Thicke been around since the early to mid 90's.

he wrote a track on Color Me back's 3rd album.

both these Bandits of R&B were schooled in R&B singing/sanging by Brian Mcknight.

the stories Mcknight could share and tell about them.

anyway what exactly has Thicke done over the past few years that is so memorable?

both Thicke and Timberlake are so average they outta call themselves the Average White Boys.

Thicke went through so many changes i bet he doesn't even remember who that is in the mirror, same with Timberlake.

I mean go back to his first album, and it's apparent that this dude is leaps and bounds more
talented than Timberlake. Beside crafting all these songs, melodies, and arrangements, playing
piano, guitar and saxophone, on his tracks, his music has been more creative than anything
Timberlake has done from the very beginning. I'm damn near offended on his behalf that folks would
say he sounds anything like Mr. Mickey Mouse Club.

and He went through so many changes to get a persona and then get the music. i mean this cat been around almost 20 years and in truth he is about as memorable as Lief Garrett. I mean nobody is breaking there neck over his music.

Thicke tries way too hard, i mean when a turkey is crying because he can't get a cover on vibe magazine well you know that turkey ain't that deep.

and yeah Timberlake is wack, however he has more personality than Thicke. which alone is the difference between having a little something and still being a wannabe.

having said all of that if you combined both these turkeys you might have a good artist. because seperated they are two average bandits.

You call it going through changes. I just call it versatility. If we wanna talk about going
through changes, then your favorite did the same thing. I'm sure you'd call that "showing different
sides as an artist" though

As for them both being average, I think Timberlake is actually beneath average. He's just a good
networker who knows how to get the right people to help. This is where Timberlake's personality comes
in handy, and probably why you say that the difference between having something and being nobody, so
in a sense, I kind of agree.
I think Robin, on the other hand, is an above average talent who has trouble condensing the broadness
of his capabilities into a narrow and digestable chunk for today's average listener. He would
probably be a much more interesting artist if he went indie and was free to make whatever he wanted to make.

this cat has tried so many things and he just comes off as a sophisticated broke jame bond poser.

even being in brian mcknight's camp as was jt didn't take him anywhere.

he hasn't brought the goods and why is he stuck with a jive singing kermit the frog turkey like pharrell??

if thicke had some game he could get that john legend and alicia keys sleppy time planter peanuts and dip crowd.

imo Jon B was the last white who had the goods musically sadly he got white balled.

In response to Reply # 42

Seal had an throwback album that mopped the floor with love letters and write me back. I'm not team Kelly so I can hear things with a neutral ear. Those albums were just alright and just another move for R Kelly to stay relevant.

and "wanna love you" is one of Thicke's best... that smooth party sound of the Neptunes has churned out so many great songs

FSLS era Timberlake..

Dude went from this....

To this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DdCoNbbRvQ

The music is different but aside from that the whole 'classy blue eyed soul aesthetic' is prevalent.

the sneakers with the suits? Not exactly new at the time but clearly bitten from Timberlake..

But who gives a fuck, I enjoy JT, but he's a poser too.

NICE TRY KOWALSKI

In Rotation-
quality music all the time.

In response to Reply # 0

I thought that someone from OKP had put it out there but I don't remember. Anyway, it was better than the final version and better than anything Timberlake has dropped (and I liked most of FS/LS).

Thicke moved completely over up to the smooth, loverman, contemporary R&B sound on the 3rd album. His sound is no different than any other R&B cat out there & that's a shame.
