"What if Ice Cube hadn't left NWA?"

At least not as soon as he did. Would hip hop be different? What do you think the 2nd NWA album would have sounded like? Would the group have went in the same direction they did?

Hard to say but I wonder how much PE influenced the direction of Ice Cube's solo career? In the beginning at least.

That second lp probably would've sounded a lot more like the 1st one as far as the lyrics go but the production would've been the same as it is one the 2nd lp.

nwa would have been the greatest hip hop group in the world with a great pen from ccube and dr.dre 1)

however no death row records or snoop. and if cube stays then its a whole different ball game. 2)

dre had to have been motivated after cube left. to me cube leaving nwa was like bobby brown leaving new edition and forcing cats to step up there game.

and let's be honest, NWA was never a group that could have or even should have lasted long-term.

Personalities & disparate talents were too big to be reigned into one unit for long once they popped.

they would have been Wu-tang before Wu-tang...I think that's is what they was shooting for with NWA and the posses.

you would have had solo albums from REn, Eazy (which we got), DOC, Cube, and others produced by DRe.

Ruthless could have become Death row...DEath row was basically Dre with Snoop and his friends so they could have come to ruthless cause Dre still would have meet Snoop during WArren G.

I'm actually kinda disappointed it didn't go that direction now that you mention the NWA and the Posse stuff. Snoop would've joined in and they could've ran shit. Fuckin Gerry Heller.

Both NWA (and Dre individually) and Cube benefited from the split. Dre *was* motivated like you said, and showed his ass on the boards on the 2nd NWA album. Then he made history with Death Row/Snoop. Meanwhile Cube dropped 2 or 3 of the best albums ever while getting political and establishing himself as one of the better lyricists of his time. He was making a case for GOAT for a while there.

This is an interesting question, tho. I wonder if they amicably split down the line, would Dre and Cube have gone on to do what they did and establish themselves as well as they did.

dre is the kinda cat who needs a figure to push him be it eazy e or suge knight or jimmy iovine.

suge though was the best thing for dre and being driven because without suge i don't think dre would have gotten where he got bigger picture.

cube expanded horizens and without that he probably has a Ice T career which ain't nothing to sneeze at however its not the many albums and sequel movie career either in front and behind the camera either.

eazy e would be proud because those cats went to greater heights apart then they would have had they stayed together.

just like snoop leaving death row.

and NWA would have been Wu-tang B4 Wu-tang with everyone going solo and having good carrers.

think of A Dr.dre produced Ren and Cube album.

Like I said Dre still would have meet Snoop, nate dogg and them cause of Warren G.

Ruthless would have had shit on lock

and i saw a shift in sound and flavor from Cube to Snoop and Pac in between.

in other words i don't know if one label could contain all that ego and push.

and cube spoke through his music, however 2Pac became a way of life in a way that cube sorta fell short and its not about who is better than or not, however there is a reason why Suge knight saw the big picture with Pac.

Cube once he started doing movies he was into all pies, Pac was always going to be judged by his music though he was a very good actor and might have become great had he lived iMO.

bone thugs wouldn' t have worked with cube and pac on the same mix. they were on a different tip.

If Cube didn't leave when he did then it would have been Dre. You can't ever forget the reason that Cube and Dre eventually left. They weren't being properly compensated for their contributions to the group. That wouldn't have changed with time in fact Eazy probably would have gotten worse when there was even more money to be made. Also, I've always heard that if Cube didn't leave they were going to kick him out anyways because he wouldn't sign the contracts that the other members did.

to assume a hypothetical situation where there WERE no money issues and NWA stayed put and Ruthless maybe became a powerhouse rather than Death Row.

...Busta hadn't left LONS ?
...QTip hadn't dissolved ATCQ ?
...Scarface hadn't left Geto Boys ?

What if hip-hop hadn't left the underground and went commercial, mainstream and super-rich ?

What if indeed.
