or should be able to rock off turntables Grab the mic, plug it in and begin But here's where the problem starts, no heart Because of that a lot of groups fell apart Rap is still an art, and no-one's from the Old School cuz Rap is still a brand-new tool I say no-one's from the Old School cuz Rap on a whole isn't even twenty years old Fifty years down the line, you can start this cuz we'll be the Old School artists And even in that time, I'll say a rhyme A brand-new style, ruthless and wild Runnin' around spendin' money, havin' fun cuz even then, I'm still number one.
And after I got done kicking that segment of the verse with passion on mic as the crowd looked on, I handed KRS' hype man the mic back that he'd handed me because he saw some motherfucka in the front-row had every lyric mentally on deck to deliver on a Tuesday night at a tiny club called Zanzibar in Santa Monica.
After I returned the mic back to its rightful owners onstage I fielded haymaker style slaps, pounds, even a tinge of Eurocentricity in the form of a hi-five from the Blastmaster before correcting himself with a backswing from the black-hand side.
I don't give a fuck that it's a Tuesday night with a hellish Wednesday morning of work awaiting in a few short hours.
That kind of moment where I'm staring a musical idol in the face & spitting his shit at him like it's gospel with zero conscience or hesitation because I got decades of internal and/or external practice while the stars have aligned to give me that chance, *those* are the moments that matter.
I won't remember shit about the mundane details of the rest of this week I'm about to bullshit my way thru or the money that in doing so I'll somehow raise to keep food/water in my hamster cage between runs on the wheel.
The only thing that matters is the people you love & moments like that which you get to recount to those same people ad infinitum with a glimmer in your eye while they try not to roll theirs because they've heard it all before like Sunshine Anderson.
In my mind the greatest rapper to ever live just stopped by my neighborhood to say hi & I'm glad I obliged him by rolling thru myself.
I don't ever wanna get to an age or place that I wouldn't do that if I could.
The woman who signs up to travel through our shared time on this earth in this form is going to have to understand that fact.
I don't have a lot of rules but allowing me to be me is one of them.
I'm not Superman. I do this shit because not everybody can.
peace to all y'all, hope each one of you amidst the chaos of the day to day gets a moment here or there to truly enjoy your life.
not ^^^, b/c I don't know enough about it at this point.
But this:
>Appreciating hip hop in a self-important, condescending, >pseudo-intellectual way is infuriating and pretentious.
tells me you didn't get it.
Either that, or you're so cranky and cynical today to pick up a euphoric stream of consciousness about how much someone loves music without viewing is as "self-important, condescending, >pseudo-intellectual" when your response is exactly that to a much greater degree.
>Not your best post, Dan.
nor yours, my man.

not at all.
But I've got a soft spot about posting about posting anyway.

that's the latest of umpteen examples with dude coming at me sideways unsolicted for whatever cranky-ass reason he cooked up.
It's doubtful I'm alone in that experience here but it doesn't really matter either way.
If we were on the sports board where folks pick teams & players I might know the root of it or care enough about my role in it to engage in a spirited & ongoing back-and-forth.
If we were on a group email chain of folks who actually knew each other I'd find real-life imperfections to point out & exaggerate while we did the dozens.
But on a board based on an aural art form where opinions are unavoidably subjective?
Pass.
Like the majority of folks here I'm a music nerd on some level but at 36 I don't do the miserable music nerd jousting shit, I mostly just ignore dude & he'd be well-advised to do the same if he considers my posting presence irksome.

Well, I guess I don't see what the significance of someone's appreciation of music is in that setting. I've met, talked to and had very intense moments with some of the people that have made the music I revere. It's made me appreciate life and music and love in the same regard, but I just don't feel the need broadcast it, I guess. Posting in GD (where the traffic is heavier) just kind of confirms that it was made for e-daps.
And I will remind Bombastic that I actually don't know who he is and it seems like lately he's been the one to have some unsolicited snarky reply for some of my posts.
I should have made my subject header RE: Fuck piss bullshit sweat vomit boogers semen blood puss tears.

>And I will remind Bombastic that I actually don't know who he >is and it seems like lately he's been the one to have some >unsolicited snarky reply for some of my posts. > Don't care enough to dig thru it & link it up for 'e-daps' but I know for a fact anyone who did so couldn't produce a shred of evidence on that reversal attempt.
Wouldn't have even acknowledged that shit either if I hadn't been talking to someone I actually do know (in OKP terms) and appreciate.
Bomb and I have a similar take on KRS... I've had the privilege of seeing him live once in my life (and it was totally unplanned); for all of his missteps, failed experiments, etc. he has been an unwavering ambassador and embodiment of hip-hop as fully-formed genre of music. even going through the motions, dude is absolutely an electrifying presence live. I fully recommend it for anyone who has a chance to see him. his enthusiasm, professionalism, and what have you can not be matched.
it's almost kind of sad that I can't think of many acts outside of that era (and before) that would approach the stage like he does, in the future.
