"Hater's gonna hate, but Atoms For Peace "Amok" kinda goes"

Sounds more electric radiohead-y than experimental thom-y.
Let me sit with it for a minute first though.

Not pop meaning pop music, but it's like the sound of a microphone popping. The bassline in that song is so good though.

I can already tell it'll prolly get more burn than the last two Radioheads *from ME*
Like if you threw those after OK Computer, then go Kid A, Amnesiac into this... hmmm I guess HTTT has to fit in there somewhere between the last two.

What stands out from most of the Thom solo work is that there's *cough* actual songwriting happening here. That's the tie to the Radiohead work. The musical accompaniment though of different textures and timbre's still flows around that songwriting in a parallel vein.

in rainbows is just about on the same level as kid a and okc, imo.

and i love king of limbs.

both albums work better for me certainly than the sprawling httt

and while i always dug amnesiac, yeah

the latter albums are better.

There's an underlying narrative that runs through out those five albums, even HTTT which revealed itself piece by piece. HTTT kind of clusterfucked it but still had some great moments. By In Rainbows they seemed to abandon that whole thing for abunch of Thomfoolery babble. King of Limbs was literally the village crier standing on the corner with newspapers pretending he made sense.

All of the above should be read as complete hyperbole including my implication that there is a narrative. It's all about perceptions and mine is kinda set on the band as a whole.

There's something about this that seems to say hmmmmmm that narrative didn't disappear yet. I'll have to give it more listens to but yeah.

i'm completely sold upon repeated listens.

i always forget that he doesn't make music for multitasking and don't really recognize the full scope of things until i devote undivided attention.

there is a LOT going on in these songs. so many damn things in the background and atmospherics. it's some serious headphone music.

but yeah...like i was sayin...i'm sold. again. god damn you thom yorke. i just can't quit you. you weird wonderful little man.

this is infinitely more consistent of a full piece than the king of limbs. the things that are fleshing themselves out to me upon repeated visits are just...man.

this project officially has its proverbial dick in my mouth right now. i'm officially fanboying.

the best part of everything? underneath all the layers and cacophony are these sleek sexy little dance numbers that don't really appear until you hear em a few times.

this shit is like nine little lotus flowers in disguise.

The organic live bass playing helps this release alot it and gives it warmth that The Eraser was missing. All hail Flea.

This probably should have been a Radiohead album actually considering King of Limbs, lol.

The more you listen to it, the less it feels that way, but that was sort of my initial reaction.

I actually thought the Live from the Basement version of KOL was better than the studio version, and I also caught a show on their last tour and those songs all go hard live.

I also caught one of the few Atoms for Peace shows they did a few a years ago when the played Eraser in full, and even those songs sounded better live.

Looking forward to hearing this new shit..

. . .an album highlight.

And Thom hadn't sounded as fired up and angry as he does on 'Morning Mr. Magpie' in at least three albums.

Still believe that King of Limbs, as a whole, is Thom's best vocal performance on record.

I like it.

It's good, but I don't think I hear what everyone else does. To me, it just sounds like Thom's follow up to the Eraser, but with better songs.

Musically, very reminiscent of OMD at times, which is just fun.

Some of Thom's most inspired guitar work in some time, especially on the album's second half.

The vinyl is really nice. Two heavy 180gram discs. The respective runout grooves have messages inscribed in them, too. Side A: "Little fireworks of joy" Side B: "Tying round reels of string" and "The soundmasters" Side C: "Just having their fun" Side D: "Trying to get your attention" Very music geeky, but I love that stuff!

Well, this has me even more excited since Eraser still gets a spin at least once a month.

it's crazy how at first it sounded all sorts of electronic to me and now it doesn't sound that way at all.

so this might be factually off..but i think they said the whole band got together at joey waronker's house in LA and listened to nothing but fela while they discussed recording the album.

... but in the context of the album they all gel together quite nicely. Wish I would have ignored the singles and just waited for the album. It gets better with each play. I had to play the Jim James again once to not burn it out.

the album as a whole really moves from front to end and as others have said sounds like a computer program ate Fela and spat out these songs

also in agreement with others, in that i wish Thom would get some one to teach him (or record) fatter drums than the "pop" ones he constantly uses

lastly, this is much better than KOL, the end.

search for one of the Roundhouse soundboard recordings from earlier this year. the stripped down piano version of "ingenue" is killer.
