"What would happen if Quincy Jones debut today?"

think about his career for a minute or two.

a marginal trumpet player, however a top tier arranger a strong producer however there is no count basie, frank sinatra and michael jackson to reach the highest of heights and no best friend Ray Charles.

dr.dre and kayne are called your overall equal???? interesting

how many marginal trumpet players would be able to play with lionel hampton, count basie, and duke ellington? he was playing with those big bands back when he was a teenager.

and write "kingfish" for their first arrangement/production. let me know.

also, if like attracts like, there's no coincidence that he and ray charles kicked it.

See this is what I hate about some people's revisionism on people's careers but praise modern marginal r&b artists, anyway, Quincy's career wasn't a fluke, dude had talent and skills which is how he got where he's at today, the only fluke was the fact he had a brain tumor which stopped his trumpet playing career but he still knew how to compose & arrange after being around greats that he played for.

Quincy is kind of like a black version of Creed Taylor, youknowhatImsayin'.

It's always a motive with Maxx...lol

U see, Quincy poses a threat to MJ's legacy (in Maxx's mind, that is...) So he has to slight his legend in some sort of way...

I thought everyone knew this....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

I knew it but sometimes he just goes too far with it.

and the powers that Be wanted MJ working with Maurice White.

they laughed at MJ for picking Q. what exactly did Quincy Jones do post Michael Jackson again?

on the other hand MJ still had good to great moments.

Quincy Jones post MJ was a relic lounge act doing more re cycling than creating anything half way memorable.

Quincy Jones needed a MJ far more because MJ was already a legend and Hall of Famer period. 69-78 MJ already an all time great.

last time i checked where are all the great songs written by Quincy Jones at again??

Weak Maxx....

In the jazz world Quincy was a big name...In the record industry game he was one of the first black dudes to have actual power in the 60s...

Get out of here with this bullshit...MJ doesn't need your help...

Mike is a music God....No need to throw Quincy under the bus....

no you are weak because Q was no duke ellington, count basie, louis armstrong

jerry hey was a better trumpet player than Q.

truth is Q didn'y blow away folks in the studio MJ and james ingram spoke on that.

great arranger, good producer however a better talent scout with top of the line in house musicians

and he was able to negotiate a pretty awesome contract for himself
at mercury records, which was amazing for the time period.

not to mention, he did the "sandford and son" theme song.

he was a legend before he produced "off the wall."

FYI i dealt with Musical Jazz cats who lets say ain't all that blown away by Q as a trumpet player. he made his big mark as a Arranger and then later as a Producer and that is a fact.

don't come in here and act like Quincy Jones was exactly a good Jazz Musician. have you ever heard his Jazz Bossa Nova Project from the 60's? that mess was more a Precursor to Najee.

Q got over with Walking in Space because he mainstream his thing and of course he has some of the baddest musician associations known to man and that is a thread all on its own, however left to his own playing he wouldn't be even as half as important as Chuck Mangione.

Doc Severson would blow Quincy Jones under a table just on a tonight show riff of runs.

Mayneard ferguson as well. nobody sits around and gushes over Q as a trumpet player.
