"Release date for Sly Stone's "Coming Back For More" doc?"

Did this documentary ever get released? I remember hearing about it a few years back but I don't ever recall hearing if it got released or not. Does anybody know?

Apparently this is a Netherlands/USA coproduction. God knows who owns the rights...but the makers do have active Facebook and Twitter (@slystonefilm) pages. Perhaps we should hit them up and ask about possibly submitting the film to Netflix?

And I wish I could remember what the name of it is...

But yeah, that one wasn't that good.

This says a lot about the caliber of documentation a cat like Sly gets compared to the 100's of docs done on the Stones and the Beatles.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I still vaguely remember anything really "telling" (considering I'll read or watch anything with Sly) in it.

and I don't know if this was one of them or not, but the ones I did see were underwhelming.

It looks like he's been clean and sober for the last half of '12 (whenever they blew up the story of him living in a van in front of someone's house..."working on music") til' now, which paired with George Clinton's rumored sobriety is good enough news and better than any for me.

That's kind of where I'm at with it now.

Sly don't need to comeback, Sly don't need to explain himself...Sly is still alive and if I had it my way would be neighbors with Bill Withers, retired and knowing they DID IT.

Yeah, I agree. There is no need for a comeback now because he's achieved his accomplishments and place in music history many moons ago.

I'd still like to just hear the many unreleased songs and or albums that he's been working on for the last 20 plus years though. There's got to be some great music in the midst of all of the songs he's recorded that he's never released.

...and "expectation", I'd be down to for the stuff to be released as well.

But...the fact that Sly is still alive is "WIN ENOUGH", I don't need him measured by "Tina Turner" or "Rolling Stones" standards.

You know and I know Sly got some heat in there somewhere, but you know and I know it would be scrutinized from here to eternity as if he were simply sitting on schitt like Dr. Dre and Detox. Thing is SLY AIN'T GAVE A FUCK. ...even when he was in/on top of the game.

That's kind of what I liked about him most...especially when he was still producing heat,...even one or two heate's per album like in his latter recordings.

Then the lights just seemed to go out.

But he's still here. Sometimes it even looks like the lights might be back on.

Oh I know, I agree with you. I even think certain songs if not even finished would probably be even be interesting to hear because Sly's writing and music is always in it's own lane. He's a genius.

I even enjoy and like his late 70's albums. His "Back On The Right Track" is my favorite of his two late 70's albums.

Show me any artist/group that wouldn't have taken a tune like "The Same Thing (Makes You Laugh, Makes You Cry)" from that album (it's brightest point IMO) and they are liars.

And then the stuff he did with P-Funk on Electric Spanking and the P-Funk All-Stars is still humbling whoever was bringing the "Alpha Funk" at that time.

Sylvester always was and always will be a monster at writing and arranging.

But I don't want him on a triton or flipping an MPC...that'd be stupid.

I would like to see him perform one GOOD time (no bullschitt) here in S.F. with all the O.G. Family Stone, for him, them and the city...cause folks seem to have forgotten the profile Sly gave the Bay area.

+fingers crossed+

Again, I agree with everything you just said. A reunion would be great.

These performances of his from 2008 in Tokyo were good:

Hey, I just found out that he did some work on Bonnie Pointer's (second album aka "Purple Album") 1979 album. He is credited with doing footstomps and synthesizer work on the song "Jimmy Mack" and electric guitar (his brother Freddie also plays electric guitar on the same song) on the song "Nowhere To Run".

Here's a link to the credits:

He put up a demo of something he was working on a last year (pretty sure) on his twitter that was VERY classic "Sly & The Family Stone", I don't recall seeing him take part in any of the reunions though. Maybe I'm wrong. He seems to only be in "religious" music now

...but ummm...*looks around* I ain't mad at this:

Freddie has always been Sly's SECRET weapon, He brang out the BEST in Sly.

He has a church in Vallejo, CA. that I'm ashamed I haven't visited in all my time in the Bay Area.
