I mean like some cats are superstars like Jordan, Magic, and Bird while others are quietly consistent like Dumars, McHale, or got that hook shot like Abdul-Jabbar that always connects (sorry, I ain't kept up with sports in a minute, lol). To me, Cole is that consistent cat that you can always count on to do what he does and do it right. He may not put up big numbers or do anything spectacular, but he'll never be completely terrible. He's dependable.
Also, I don't get any "it" factor from any of these cats rapping or singing right now. I really just ask that they bring SOMEthing to the table that I can cling to. One thing that Cole *does* have that most of the new niggas don't is voice inflection. You can tell he actually means what he's saying... and with his type of content, that's very important since he raps about some real and touching subjects. His level of sincerity is unmatched. Speaking of which, his lyrics and subject matter are also a huge part of his appeal.
That said, I know you're a Cocaine 80s fan (as am I), and James Fauntleroy has very little "it" factor. The music is just good. You can put it in and ride or zone out... it assists you in doing so more than it commands your attention or draws you in. It's the same thing with Cole, imo... especially on this particular collection.
>I'm not gonna deny his talent at all. Dude can spit. And I >like his approach, which is what you were touching on mostly. >But he's just boring. There's no "it" factor with him. Nothing >about his work excites me ever. His first album put me to >SLEEP.
