race is always a factor
but one of the reasons it's easy for "them" to stay ahead
is because we (rubs skin) are always trying to get "their" approval.


we don't need rolling stone to give frankie beverly his props.
we already gave them those props and our opinion is just as valid as theirs.

we don't need them to tell us that the Isley Bros. are awesome.
we know that already.


the more we seek "their" approval,
the more we stay behind the eight ball.


this applies to a lot of things in the black community,
not just the race politics of the rock and roll hall of fame.
in some ways, it goes to the heart of the black psyche.
we can't truly build black businesses until
we believe out businesses are as valid as theirs.

we don't need their validation or their stamp of approval.
our music is ours, and a lot of it is great.

unsung is awesome because it gives documentaries
to folks that typically can't get them.

there are millions of beatles documentaries,
but there aren't many about george clinton.


also, unsung airs on centric (i think)
so it's sorta for "us."

This is one major factor - pretty sure I had more patience for that when I joined the boards... but I was also in my senior year of high school then, lol... (cue Eddie Izzard: "we did that in school...")

But there's another factor too: I just don't have the time these days to really engage with posts. I'm really bad at starting threads or replying to posts and then forgetting about them for a week or two. *and* even though I keep pretty up-to-date on shit, I feel out-of-the-loop enough to make me second-guess anything I think about posting.

Like I *really* want to make a post about the Jose James/Voodoo connection, but I: a) know that it will be taken the wrong way by the anti-D establishment, and b) can't speak to James's career track as I'm only familiar w/his major releases and know very little about dude as a whole

But yeah, less ______ is better than ______ posts, even where it is only implied, would be a good thing. It doesn't reflect how I listen to music at all - so I have very little desire to join that game of chutes & ladders....

Which basically ruins the rappers shot of an honest evaluation. The majority of those replies would be FOH, and more likely the 5 people that would have gave the new rapper the proper attention would be put off from bothering to listen.

Point being stop worrying about trying to get folks attention and just post honest. There are honest fans around here that will reply in kind. But the hyperbole and the hierarchy shit, save that for the barber shop.
