"20 years ago Michael Joe Jackson turned the super bowl out"

like the cold Musical Pimp He was he set the standard and turned that joint out. now we are stuck with Beyonce and other acts following his lead, but MJ made the Halftime show the special it was.

the NFL had to go to the Kang of Music because back in 92 the super bowl halftime show lost out to Living color's Men on film and they had to bring the baddest of the bad to connect in the real way.

Here's the straight dope..

1. MJ made it possible for the NFL to recruit Grade A talent.

2. His production was insane for that time...

3. MJ lip synched that entire show...But MJ being MJ not too many people cared...It will forever stand out because it was Michael Jackson...But it wasn't the best half time show of all time..

4. Beyonce did pretty damn good...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

who cares if you lip sych a halftime show or not really.

i mean its about glitz and high power excitement.

nobody goes to a super bowl half time show expecting to get a concert.

Beyonce was corny and predictable. IMO

and Prince was just ok. Springsteen had too much Viagra and was corny.

the Who put me to sleep. and Black eyed peas was stanky.

MJ did it right with the way he brought it.

beyonce over sings, and just sceams and wow she had a band on stage?

its not like she is doing anything different on that platform.

i dig it today, too...
but i do know what you mean here.

>...But the flash out weighed the actual performance...

i still like his the best,
but i don't know if i can argue MJ did the BEST halftime show.

he gets the nod because he is the one that made
the subsequent Super Bowl halftime extravaganzas possible.

like you and maxxx said, there was a time when everybody watched "in living color" instead of the halftime show.

the folks may have put on better shows
wouldn't have been there unless MJ made it legit.

i can't be objective though.

the whole thing went together and MJ proved he can do it live or lip synch Motown 25 anybody?

MJ had the song had the moves and could straight up perform.

Beyonce got "crazy in love" and even that ain't enough to merit past 5 minutes.

Man, it's easy to STAN out for MJ, especially if you were a young kid watching that half-time show back then...That shit was a spectacle...lol

But again...it wasn't MJ's best performance, by his lofty standards...The symbol of Mike doing that show was, however HUGE...He opened the lane for other Big-Timers to put their hat in the ring...And he made the half-time show must-see TV...That's the true legacy of his Super Bowl appearance...

As for Prince? That's already been settled...Dude's half-time show has been deemed the best...U try singing and playing guitar in the rain, Maxx...lol....That dude KILLED it...Sung live and put on a show...When he brought out FAMU's Marching 100 that shit was CRAZY...That's the actual performance standard folks have to shoot for...

Billboard and others have it right...Although I think Madonna and Areosmith should not be in the top 10...But that's another post...

jim hendrix played guitar in the rain and he threw down, it ain't like Prince did something ground breaking or something and the halftime show is more about theatrics and hype anyway and memory serves me right "we will rock you" preluded his performance which was canned.

i wasn't blown away by it and sorry but Prince trying to be all Ike Turner Jr as he gets older is corny to me.

i dug how he did Sign o the times at the mtv video awards back in 87 with the drums and the effect better than that super bowl performance IMO

it's a simple thing,
but he pulled it off so effortlessly with as little movement as possible.

his posture was impeccable.

and he revealed an untucked white button down shirt.
once he grabbed the fedora he was in a facsimile of his Billie Jean costume.

it was an instant wardrobe change and he did it so effortlessly.
and i love how he went straight into the "....people always told me" part
after the drum intro.

^ and that is how you Stan for MJ. lol

you let a turkey like Chris Brown, Usher, or a turkeyretta like Rhianna or Beyonce stand behind the curtain and the police is yanking them off stage.

MJ made Prince step his game up as did Rick James. without MJ Prince would have been stuck arby's with Shannon.

MJ tore that purple turkey up during there primes,

it took prince a long time to get his sound, dancing and "s curl" on point.

Pete Townsend wasn't a registered sex offender, James Brown hasn't been charged multiple times of assaulting women and I wont even get into the Rolling Stones. R Kelly may not be the most righteous person but the industry has no problem celebrating others who do plenty of not so great things
