"yo ive been listening to an excessive amnt of anticon lately (new stuff)"

and old stuff.

they've got a lot of shit hitting lately

baths, son lux, saroos, serengeti, bracken, tobacco, fuck the list goes on.

and ive been bumping alot of subtle, themselves, and greenthink lately (not sure if all of those were on anticon or not).

i know this sounds hella street teamish, but fuck it, anticon's been on a little bit of a resurgence, huh?

i think so. just of those you've listed, i really like bracken (and everything that guy does, especially hood), and themselves' 'theFREEhoudini' (retail version) and 'CrownsDown' surprised the hell out of me

it's like nas' 'life is good' deluxe, the bonus tracks are just as good as if not better than most of the main album.

i love the self-titled cLOUDDEAD (an old woman once asked me if the music i was playing was tibetan monks chanting). the followup proper album was a big step down but still not bad. that and why? going indie put me off of anticon for years until bracken. a lesser appreciated older album but just as good as s/t cLOUDDEAD IMO is the boom bip & doseone 'circle' album, and it, too, came out on mush rather than anticon.

Although I guess the first release came out for free a year ago so I wish I had just gotten it then. But I'll most likely cop.

I may have said this here before, but I mainly listen to Anticon stuff to challenge myself and and my core, I'm a huge stinking "backpacker" (please not the quotes, don't flame me, etc.)

Last artist that I copped from them was Serengeti, which I liked quite a bit. Everything else has slipped under the radar. I still like Dose and JEL's music a lot, but I don't even know if they're Anticon proper anymore. Ran into Dose at a Hellfyre Club show up here in October, and that dude is living the dream though, so props to him.

i always thought some of the beats, specifically on Sole's early work, were amazing, but when I tried checking out Jel, Odd Nosdam, Scott Matelic, Alias, Telephone Jim Jesus instrumental albums, I never really heard anything I loved...maybe I need to revisit some of those

Are there any great instrumental albums by anticon and associated producers? Like, the beats Alias did, specifically "Plutonium" on Sole's "Selling Live Water" are AMAZING

Alias - Fever Dream

Love this song:

Odd Nosdam - Level Live Wires

This is the more atmospheric side of the Anticon sound.

Favorite tune:

More upbeat Odd Nosdam - T.I.M.E. soundtrack (skate video)

Pretty happy stuff:

I personally liked Jel's last album, Late Pass. Almost all of the songs have vocals, but there's an instrumental version. Look up is great. Not low key staring at the wall type stuff--kind of like a more hip hop, happier Amon Tobin.

I dug Level Live Wires the most, I think, but nothing really stuck out to me as much as my favorite beats they've done for Sole.
I need to listen to Jel's old stuff like 10 Seconds and Greenball

i've checked a fair amount of their stuff, some i didnt like, some is alright, some i love. here's some favorites cuts:

Sole - "Year Of The Sexxx Symbol"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le-vcS6yImk
From his more boom bap album, Bottle Of Humans. This is literally one of my favorite beats ever...the horn sample used for the chorus...!!

Serengeti - "Flutes"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ_0VQH9Jxs
I'm not deep into his discog, but how can anyone not love horns in the chorus sample? And his delivery fits perfect with this beat

Sole - "Plutonium"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5rrLkLlxkk
2nd album, "Selling Live Water", production is a little grungier and more expansive, and some of it is still really soulful/emotive...again, the production on this one is amazing to me

Baths - "lovely bloodflow"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVTrZjY2K5I
If you've been following BINKBEATS recreations of beat artists (madlib, flylo, lapalux, dilla, etc) you've heard him do this one...his first album was like a halfway point between the Wonky/LA Beat Scene and emo electro pop like the Postal Service..I loved it. 2nd album went more toward full out electro pop, but is still good

Dosh - "Capture The Flag"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3CGWOw9LHI
Dosh makes prog-jazz-live-instrument-looping beat music, I saw him live once at Kung Fun Necktie and he was really good, bought one of his albums (Tommy). It's hard for me to pick one memorable track that sticks out, but how can you not sorta love a vid where he's playing drums with one hand and keys with another and the guy in the background switches between sax, bass, and drums at various points? If you dig this, you'll probably like most of his stuff.
