anything that has gotten a high rating anywhere.

people like to think they are "in the know".

i.e. "oh - EYE get it, do you?"
even if what they're getting kind of sucks, that won't stop them from praising it if they think there is some sort of "challenge" involved or that the act made it somewhat inaccessible to everyone.

that kendrick lamar album could be one recent example...

people saw that someone took the time to actually sequence an album with some sort of theme and segue-ways and of course, because that sort of thing is so absent in today's music, they lost all their bearings.
but the bottom line is: do i want to hear these songs ever again? - not the frills.
but critics generally know nothing about music theory or how music is made.

and i don't want to pick on that album any more.
it's the same across the board.
not just music, movies, tv, books etc.
when people at least THINK they're being talked to intelligently - the topical fodder or integrity of the message is secondary.
and this is seemingly the common thread holding almost every critically adulated piece of media together if you think about it.

on the flip-side, any music that has been commercially successful this year, last year, the year before...

all of it is so basic and all-inclusive that if you didn't know any better you'd swear they were making it so that even a mentally handicapped person could "get it".
and that's generally the common thread on why it wins (or why the corporation who rigs the race for it to win - choose it over other songs)
it challenges little to nothing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo6LjA66vrY

^watch this and try not to feel like you had your tastes/intelligence insulted.

it's like a fastball vs. an underhanded lob.
one typically gets you critical adulation, the other gets you commercial success - regardless of how valid or apt for either what you are doing is.

that's really not what i was saying.
i was saying it's really as simple as feeding someone the perception that you aren't insulting their intelligence to receive critical adulation nowadays and vice versa with commercial success.
it really could be reduced to that in simplest terms.
hence the use of the word seemingly.

It's very irritating.

I can't even imagine how miserable it would be to attempt to talk to you in person.

More than anything though, you *do* realize you're not normal, right?

it seems nowadays that all you have to do to receive critical adulation is give people the perception of them not having their intelligence insulted.
regardless of the merits of your work.
you are seemingly beyond reproach in today's climate as long as you talk to people like they are intelligent.
regardless of whatever you are saying or even talking about...

and i started thinking...
the inverse for commercial success is generally true as well.
you could argue something like this could have been made as a joke to see just WHAT depths people would tolerate and accept:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7HmzwI67ec

-looks at view count-

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/CornetteFace_4208.jpg

no, they aren't joking.

no this wasn't a joke either:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6j4f8cHBIM

this was made for someone to actually spend their money, listen to and -gulp- ...enjoy.
no, seriously.

so i made the post and it still stands to reason in my opinion.
and i don't expect you to "get it" since you're such a mediocre mind to begin with...
but thanks for your reply.

Kendrick Lamar has outsold every rapper this year except Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and people of that caliber

meaning: 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Good Music, everyone else on the radio who put something out this year, he sold more records than them

well, at least it had 48 hours of relevancy.

it is possible for things to be both commercially successful and critically adulated - it's just rare.
