His album is not the best, imo. The mastering is too "in your face" and squashes the best thing about his live sound: the dynamics. He's got the crappy Black Keys mastering that has already ruined their sound. It is harsh and just gives you a headache listening to it. I still have hope for him...as long as he stays in the blues/rock lane and doesn't try to trend-ride the corny pop/rnb stuff that a couple LP cuts hint at.
was actually Feb. 2012, it seems, that it aired, so who knows when it was taped. Was also all kinds of a mess, but it wasn't his fault.
I'm not a big fan - no doubt he's a great guitarist, and I'm glad there is a young Black guy getting props for repping blues, but his music is more or less ordinary; I'm pretty much with Bomb on this.

in a mostly blues vein.
BBP is more of a songster - while blues is the majority of his lexicon, he's fluent in early Black country styles as well.
Clark is more from the 'guitar hero' school of blues-rock.
But keep in mind that blues is mostly a dead genre at this point, and has been for 40 years with a few exceptions... he's not musically that much different at this point from Joe Bonnamassa, Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd or anyone else who gets celebrated as the next big blues thing but is really playing music that's just more Blueshammer than Blues. Hopefully he'll get better - I'd love to see that - but the historic pattern doesn't lend me too much hope.
So the idea that Clark should even have a 'spot' should be taken by someone else is kinda silly to me, like having a 'spot' for Dixieland or something. If I had my druthers there'd be a revival of interest in old Okeh sides instead of a media buzz of enthusiasm generated largely by the attitude that 'yeah, he's not that good, but there isn't really anyone better.'

have not heard the studio record though, so cant speak to that at all.
but if dude comes round for a concert i'll be checking the show out for sure...
