1. "Miguel 5 Nominations, Frank Ocean - Multiple Noms. No Surprise"
In response to Reply # 0

This time, Miguel finally gets Grammy love with 5 Nominations including
Song of the Year. When "Channel Orange" was released earlier this year, I knew without a shadow of a doubt Frank Ocean would be nominated for Best New Artist, Record of the Year, & Song of the Year. Though I listen to Miguel ("Adorn" "That I Do (FTRMX)" "Where is the Fun in Forever") way more than Frank, congrats to both.

Wasn't really feeling Frank's album either.
I bought it, but it is so overhyped.
As a singer, he leaves much to be desired.
Maxwell, Usher, Dwele, Raphael Saadiq, & Miguel all
outsing Frank.
As a songwriter, I will give him props, cause
he may be the best there is right now.
As a performer, comparing Frank's live performances
with Miguel's on Youtube, Miguel outperforms Frank & is now getting
recognition for giving the dopest live shows.
Judging from Miguel live sets on Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, Ellen, etc., he goes in, & gives an exciting show.
Frank is kinda boring on a live tip compared to Miguel.
But Frank Ocean is the Grammy's Golden Child.
Though the "Best R & B Album of the Year" is
Miguel's "Kaleidoscope Dream" not Frank Ocean's "Channel Orange."
We will see who wins that category. This time we know it won't be Chris Brown.

I'm rooting for SWV too, but they got some stiff competition from Anita Baker and Beyonce. Anita's "Lately" was a Top 20 R & B hit & Beyonce's "Love on Top" was #1 for four weeks on the R & B chart.
SWV should have done more to promote that song, at least make a music video.

Going for Miguel on this one especially since "Adorn" was nominated for Song of the Year. If Miguel doesn't win, I wouldn't mind if Anthony Hamilton won with the song Babyface wrote for him.

Wale & Miguel should have been nominated in this category with "Lotus Flower Bomb." That song was #1 for a while.

Outside of Outkast I can't think of one time where their fake "We aren't all old dinosaur!" campaigns have actually panned out for the artist...usually they only win like less then half the awards they are nominated for (and album of the year usually goes to someone like the fucking Rolling Stones0

Why would he bring them up to take away from his moment of shine? I often thought about this now that Frank is the more accomplished and a recognized talent and brand of the camp. He is now on the next level of his artistry and on a field Im not really sure Odd Future could ever be a part of. And I dont really think they want to be either. OF helped him developed his base Odds are OF won't be there cause you want that artist to enjoy that shine on the podium (should he win) although these days you just dont know.

So i I ask you. what is Frank's roll in OF? Is he is the one legitimate element to the crew?
Does he roll harder for them now? Share your thoughts!

That "Refill" song by Elle Varner is dope.
Coko hit those high notes to Patti's "If Only You Knew."
I am surprised, but ecstatic for SWV's nomination for that
song, because that album was barely on the charts & only
sold at a few places like Target. That song is incredible.
SWV should have made a video & done more Marketing/PR for that cd.
Tamia did her thing with Salaam Remi (Producer of Nas & Amy Winehouse) for "Beautiful Surprise." I'm glad she got the recognition she deserved.

Side Note: Can you believe that SWV & Tamia, who can sang their butts off, have never won a Grammy, but Rihanna who can't sing a lick has?
The irony of the Grammys.

When I bought the Robert Glasper cd at J & R Records in Lower Manhattan, it was in the Jazz Category. I consider it an eclectic, experimental Jazz cd. It has some tough competition & may win, but
maybe it should have been nominated along side Esperanza Spalding in the Jazz category.

The Robert Glasper Remix Cd is Even Better.

A few surprise here- It was cool to see The Roots, Frank, Robert Glasper, Fiona, Nas, and Bjork with nominations.

Other than that this proves once again that the Grammy voters have the most awful bland stale generic taste in music. There's no reason why Coldplay's worst album should have been nominated more than once, if at all. Mumford & Snooze- I don't understand why people are so fascinated with them. Fun? More watered down indie music that shouldn't be on the list. I'd rather seen Animal Collective receive a nomination (hell Bjork got one this year). Grizzly Bear? Killer Mike? Flying Lotus? Bruce Springsteen's new music just isn't interesting or moving enough to get a nomination, just because he's a "legend" doesn't mean he should automatically qualify for a nomination. Miguel-s faux-alternative R&B album was pretty mediocre.

They'll never get it right. They'll always just be a few exceptional talents every year. But they're not fucking with quality across the board.
