i can only hate but so much because the songs are well produced and the singer actually sounds good (no Wu Tang-o)...but it's so far away from the hip hop i wanna hear.

...type of album. This his been a particularly good year for straight up Timz N Hoodz rap, especially by A.G. contemporaries and homies (OC, Roc Marci, Sean P, Guilty Simpson, etc.). A straight up Show and A.G. album would have fit in perfectly in this climate.

In the mid/early 00's it looked like he was coming back strong with his feature on that Handsome Boy Modeling School song w/ RZA & The Mars Volta, his album that followed was pretty solid, then next thing you know, he's back as a Roc Marciano impersonator a few years back. Now he's doing R&B music? Eh...
I gotta say, though, I feel like people were too tough on that Wizard Of Poetry album, though. It's not what you want/expect from a Ghostface album, but it wasn't like Fishscale, More Fiash & Big Doe Rehab were particularly strong artistic statements. There's a couple of real gems on that album: "Stay", "Do Over", "Guest House" & "Forever".

that's the thing tho...it's like they *unintentionally* made a damn R&B album trying to make crossover hip hop in the vein of BIG or Pac. but that era is dead and gone. and it's not like they're signed to a major where they'd need to be making those type of concessions to label/market demands.
and like i said it's not like it's WACK...it's actually nicely done, but WHO WANTS TO HEAR THIS SHIT???
and more importantly...who's gonna BUY this shit?

the same mini-rant i have about this album also applies to that particular Ghostface album. well done...but who wants to hear it?

I actually like some stuff on there, and it creates a cool vibe. There's a fair share a wack sauce as well tho.

I find this type of shit with a lot of the "come back" albums by '90s acts (The ones that have popped into my head are albums by Grand Puba and Brand Nubian): It's like all their years on a major label and struggling to get their shit heard on NY radio have hard-wired into their brain that they just need that "one big single" to get them onto the radio and get them to sell millions of records. Not understanding of course, like you said above, that that era is dead now and they don't have to do that shit anymore. They're any labels that will give them all the fucking artistic freedom that they want, but their conditioning has been so conditioned that they don't exercise that freedom. Some artists from that era "get it": Large Pro, OC, DOOM, Ed O.G., but it's a very hard mentality to shake for a lot of others.
>and more importantly...who's gonna BUY this shit?
**sigh** People like me are probably in that demographic. I'm sure not buying this without giving a good preview first.
>the same mini-rant i have about this album also applies to >that particular Ghostface album. well done...but who wants to >hear it?
Pretty much. Here's what I said about it when it dropped: Good stretch of tracks in the middle of it, but on those opening and closing tracks, Ghost often felt like a guest on his own album.

I like Ray West beats, and his LuvNY project was pretty good too. It hits me the same way Marciano and KA do.. It isn't a classic album by any means, but I thought the whole project was really refreshing.

and i'm not exactly shitting on this project because it's quality music. Showbiz's evolution is pretty incredible (especially since i haven't heard it in a while), he really put together some nice **MUSIC**. i wanna hear BEATS tho.

Except that they dropped the hard as nails "boom bap" companion piece 'Mugshot Music Preloaded' for free earlier in the year.
I was surprised at the sound of the actual album but like you said, it's done well. Just came out of left field. AG's doing just fine with his outside work as well
Everything's Berri & Luv NY are both great records. as was Oasis.

That shit was tough, in my opinion. One of my favorite albums of 2012 and a direct contrast to the r&b flavor on the "official" release. They also dropped a Mugshot Music remix album that had some dope shit on it, too.

Showbiz has dope songs under his belt and not just from the Show & AG albums but from other people he has produced for, but once he went to jail and came back, he hasn't been sounding the same but he still can make some dope shit but not on the level he was on beforehand.
The last Show & AG album I've heard was the free downloadable album "Preloaded" but that was suppose to be just joints that wasn't going to make the album and songs that they were working on for the past couple of years; and it was dope to me.
As far as AG, I like him as a guest artist and when he does songs with Showbiz but when it comes to his solo albums, they usually end up being below average (yeah that Berri album sucked to me), so what you've been hearing is some new Show & AG or was it just some new solo AG tunes?

who else has he been producing for? Mary J. Blige needs to be working with him, for real.

i'd argue that Show has actually improved over the years. he's certainly better than Diamond or Buckwild who've almost completely abandoned their roots at this point.
