it's understandable that a nigga assumed he was just thanking pete for beats in general, as opposed to THE beat. and it doesn't help that P. Phillips ain't even in the credits. self admitted outro skimmer/skipper.

Can't really fault you for not knowing. Anyone could've thought that, especially since, as hammam pointed out, Pete's name isn't in the credits. If I'm not mistaken, Tip heard Pete making the joint, he asked for permission to use it (according to Tip), and later recreated the joint himself.
