i feel like one of my musical heroes just got his hand caught in the cookie jar. after listening and checking the id3 tag of the mp3, i did a quick google search and found that this wasn't a new moroder 2012 protools "modern mix" but a youtube rip of a fan remix (http://www.youtube.com/user/fggkremasterd). i left a comment on the page (http://soundcloud.com/giorgiomoroder2/its-so-good) this morning, and a few minutes later he deleted not my comment but the entire upload. the 2012 "remastered" version of "chase" i linked above, from his reup, also has the catalog number of the original single in the tag. i think it's a clean vinyl rip someone else did and he uploaded it with the completely unnecessary fib that it was a new digital master. also, if you browse his favorites (http://soundcloud.com/giorgiomoroder/favorites?format=html&page=3), the very first one is just "chase" that someone put on soundcloud with a free download (exceeded). everything else is remixes and edits of his work as well as some completely unrelated uploads. i can look past this. everything else is fishy. the GM facebook page links to the soundcloud uploads, but we've seen with mf doom that facebook pages can be faked/hacked with few even realizing it. unfortunately it's hard to tell if this is really moroder and not an attention-seeking superfan. too bad soundcloud doesn't have verified accounts.

now http://soundcloud.com/giorgiomoroder/ is gone entirely. the 2nd and 3rd accounts are still up. why so many media outlets accepted this as legitimate without question speaks volumes.
