"Gil Scott-Heron & ODB Documentaries on BBC 1Xtra"
Hello Okayplayer people
Hope all's good
I'm new here (excuse the pun) but I wanted to let you know about two documentaries on ODB and Gil Scott-Heron that are coming up on BBC 1Xtra, both part of the 'Gone Too Soon' series.
Both are Folded Wing productions and you can listen on the BBC iPlayer.
I've worked on the Gil doc quite closely and have to say am really proud of the finished programme. We wanted to make sure we honoured the great man and came correct!

Sorry forgot to say that yes, we interviewed Mr Brian Jackson for the programme. What a man!
Also featured are Shabazz Palaces, Jamie XX, Chuck D, Mos Def, KRS One, Speech Debelle, Richard Russell from XL Records and many of Gil's family, friends and musicians
It features interviews with Brian Jackson, Malcolm Cecil, Jamie XX, Richard Russell, Shabazz Palaces, Speech Debelle, Chuck D, Mos Def, KRS-One and many of Gil's close family and friends.
And you can still listen to our programme on ODB from last Sunday

"i can imagine myself without the other 5, but i can't imagine myself without my sense of humor."
Lol, love it. This man...much respect as always.
Great documentary. Only thing is i wanted to know if Brian was talking in 2012 or if that was pulled from other interviews.
SIDE NOTE: i did NOT like I'm New Here's OR We're New Here's production. It was like they were tryna make Gil dark and gothic and ish. His poetry was great as could be expected (check out Running on youtube), but the whole feel of the album was waaay opposite of the Brian Jackson & Midnight Band sound i so love. And the Jamie Xx remixes were kinda an acquired taste for me and mostly techno-ish with bits of Gil sprinkled in. But as they mentioned in the interview, it put a lottt more young folks on to him so i give them props for that.
