with The Legendary was at Brooklyn Academy Of Music & water already became an issue.
It was Summer of '99, Macy Gray opening & The Roots splitting a double-bill with Gangstarr (celebrating their 10th Anniversary, just after Full Clip had dropped & their set featured guest appearances from Freddie Foxxx, Nice & Smooth & Inspectah Deck).
Malik was onstage looking lost, Thought was even doing some of his verses while Malik was standing onstage on the other side but I honestly don't know if he realized when his time to spit was on some of them.
At some point Malik must have been feeling hot under the lights and decides to start dumping water all over his head, leaving a puddle on the floor that some poor stagehand kept running out to quickly wipe up to keep the stage from being slick while the rest of the group was looking around like 'WTF is he doing?' but carrying on like the professionals they are.
Quest came in here after the show saying 'Malik will NEVER be onstage with us again' or words to that affect.
Sorta wondered if there was a duel meaning to that hook when Phrenology dropped but figured I was reading into it too much.
That was also the last time I saw Rahzel with the group as well, his solo album dropped that same week & I guess he figured he opted for a solo career from there on out.
As you can see in this video Malik still has that spit. His verse was tight. But at the same time you can tell he's...off. Shit sucks man. His group has gone on to do great GREAT things and he's sitting on some damn stoop in Philly and reminiscing on when he used to go to London.

I don't know what he's up to these days but back in that late-90s/early-to-mid-2000s era when I was still living back there I'd see Malik randomly at spots in Philly, open-mic nights & such.
Even saw Malik selling his mixtape out front of Emerald City the night of The Tipping Point album-release party/show back in '04.
