Might have mentioned this earlier in the year, but I'm a huge fan. Always have been. Cop the albums day one. Saw him live a few months ago. Etc.

But I gotta be in a certain mood to listen to his music (or Killer Mike's, in this case). And when I'm in that mood, it's amazing. Great albums. But they don't lend themselves to constant, all the time, anywhere anytime rotation for me. I'll play both back to back for like 2 days, and then not listen to either for a month.

I love his beats, and at times can't stop listening to them. I recognize the complexity of what he puts together and appreciate it and love it.

But I only listen to his shit here and there, for the same reason, just gotta be in the right mood. He doesn't make the type of music I can put on in any situation and ride to it.

El mentions it during his "Selector" session with Pitchfork:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzZzXyv3Xi0&list=UU7kI8WjpCfFoMSNDuRh_4lA&index=0&feature=plcp
(just after the 2 minute mark)

Killer Mike mentions it in an interview with The Well Versed
http://thewellversed.com/2012/09/20/interview-killer-mike-ponders-collab-album-with-immortal-technique-why-people-dislike-conscious-music/
(within the first minute)

KM also has some hilarious shit to say about "conscious" music....

Anyway, in El's interview he says they're getting together "in the next two weeks", and it was uploaded at the end of August. He's been on tour in Europe for the past little bit, so who knows.

I do hope it happens though.
They both seem pretty pleased with how things are meshing with the two of them, so I don't see why it wouldn't happen.

me too, man...i can't even put my finger on it. it's not like he's the best rapper ever, but he's extremely solid and he's got a classic NY rapper voice. i think the best thing about Large Pro is that he really sounds like he enjoys what he's doing. you can feel it.

as a matter of fact I found a sample from that LP on a Sly & The Family Stone record by accident...I love it when that happens!

It works best as a weird autotune pop album.

this place loves to assume because some one doesn't out right love some thing, than we think it's wack and we're no fun/boring (obvisouly aimed @ rhymesandammo not you). wrong. Pluto is a fun record of autotuned pop-rap.

its un fair to place pluto next to rap music, habits and contradictions, life is good, cancer 4 cure, ect because they're doing different things

i tired of them both quickly. El-P is too inaudible. JJ DOOM & Nas have the best albums. I do like the El-P & Mike albums though. Just don't ever find myself in a mood for them.

i played jj doom like a billion times in a row because i HAD to. it caused me to go back and do the knowledge on all Jneiros old stuff which has me occupied at the moment.

i aslo like Large Pro's album more than the El P stuff but that's just me i suppose.

the Ka album is more my twist for 'heady' rap than El.

just kidding. ..

I agree R.A.P. Music is one of the best albums of the year, 2nd only to Life Is Good imo.
Cancer 4 Cure is good too. But I think Killer-Mike's album is El's best work since Cold Vein. But maybe I'm just not a big fan of El as a solo artist. . . I was a big Co-Flow fan back in the day though, so its not that I don't dig him as an MC, I do, I just find his solo albums to be longwinded and overly dramatic. I do respect his ambition though.

Couple cats put out some dope albums, but none of them get played like the Killer Mike album. The El-P album I play about as much as the Large Pro album.
I gotta give the new Homeboy Sandman album a chance.

...I just recently came back to them after setting them aside for a minute.
They both knock harder than a lot of the other stuff that came out.

I will say this though, 2012, at least to me has been a pretty good year for new releases.
Lots of high quality stuff coming out from new and old cats.

You can make an argument for a few releases for 1 & 2 this year.

As far as the amount of good quality hip-hop albums, I may be willing to say that this is the best year since 2000.

I'd have to revist a few years like 2009 and some others but there have been a lot of good-great albums this year.

on an iPad at work so I can't really go into details for an hour or so but 2011 had about 20 4 star or better releases and a TON of solid material behind that.

I was impressed over and over again last year.

I thought RAP Music and C4C were both very good, though I'd put both a step behind I'll Sleep When You're Dead, but that's just personal preference. They also both had to compete with that one in my head, which is a tough standard to surpass.

But my favorite album so far this year (and it's been a GREAT year) has been B.Dolan's House of Bees volume 2. Super slept-on, but it was kind of a total-package underground rap album-- intricate flows, banging beats and a unique sound, plus more straight-up substance than anything else out. I'm sure not everyone who enjoy it as much as I did since I'm a substance-first listener, but it's definitely worth a listen. Film the Police, Tin Soldiers, Which Side Are You On and Still Here were highlights.

Toki Wright's "Faders" mixtape was also really good and really slept-on.

We still have Typical Cats, The Coup, P.O.S. and a bunch more coming, too. It's a great time to be into indie/underground hip hop.
