"Buddy Peace's BUDDY & MUDDY & WOLF (20 minute mix)"
http://bit.ly/ONadvo I have a column on my site called BANDCAMP SUGGESTIONS where I'm looking for something I want to show support for, and this one came to me after a friend posted another release on his Tumblr. I went to Buddy Peace's Bandcamp page and heard this. BUDDY & MUDDY & WOLF is a 20 minute mix where he twists two blues albums from 1969 that was immediately hated by some, loved by a younger generation: Muddy Waters' ELECTRIC MUD Howlin' Wolf's THE HOWLIN' WOLF ALBUM
If you're a producer, record collector, vinyl junkie, or a fan of hip-hop, you should know how important these albums are. Rejected by older fans who thought this sounded like "hippie shit", they were embraced by people such as Chuck D. and DJ Muggs, among many others, who looked to the weirdness as something cool and quite funky in its own way. For some, these two paved the way for other blues albums that also tried a few things, or other "weird" sounds at the record store, which in turn would be put into the pot for an incredible period in hip-hop where it seemed anything and everything could be sampled, at least before the sample police made himself known.
Anyway, it's simply someone taking tracks from these albums and using it in a way where you'll either say "that would work as a track on its own" or "hey, Cypress Hill!"
