a bit pretentious, but it's the type of music that makes me wanna settle down with a woman and go shopping for groceries, fly gear, or go walk on a beach like some hipster video or indy movie is being filmed while this plays in the background, ending the day(s) with real breathy look into her eyes intimate sex.
it can skew adult contemporary, and apes on Sade (the whole band) a lil' much but i like it

that I've heard so many of these songs before. It's really confusing me. Has she been getting TV/film/ad spots with a lot of her songs of something and that's where I know them from? Or am I just crazy. There's that one song that sounds a lot like Kelis - Millionaire, which probably explains that, but I honestly feel like I've heard half the album before, and I have no idea why.

she is a fan of american music, and she gets get the sade deuce diss a a lot. chalk it up to wishful songwriting maybe?
which raises a good question, would making something new be more profitable than sticking to trends and easing people into a new artists style/point of view?

He usually has legit things to say when he hates albums
Hes rated a lot of my favorite albums low (notably MBDTF) but damned if I don't agree with what he says about them, or at least see what his point is.
He's also very vocal about the fact that his reviews are just opinion and that he always prefaces as such. And he's fairly consistent about what he likes and doesn't like so I'm not really surprised.
I think 4's a bit harsh. Swan Song needs to get more love, its a fucking jam.

So he tries to 'get it' by attempting to relate to it on technical terms. Case in point, Fantano's Life Is Good review completely misses the point of the album's musical and lyrical direction altogether and proves that he honestly didn't understand what Nas was going for with that particular album. He even tried to come at it by putting it in context with Nas' last couple of albums....basically giving the album a bad rating for not being something it could never be.
That being said, I somewhat agreed with his Channel Orange review even though the score was way too low IMO.
But besides all of that, his youtube channel is really diverse with the reviews and track reviews. He does a "my vinyl collection" series where he shows you and tells you about the records he has which i like. He has videos where he poses interesting questions that are honest and through provoking. The thing that I feel rubs people the wrong way is when he cuts corners on reviews for albums that he definately didn't enjoy listening which he makes obvious when he gets facts wrong and misses the point as was said. But most of the time in his reviews his premises and points are completely valid and always brings an interesting perspective about what hes saying thats always around the music and less on the context of the album.
I'm a fan.

yea, I don't always agree with his scoring but he usually has interesting takes on critiquing albums that a lotta folks dont. I take it the same way I do when I'm chillin with other music heads discussing an album.

And I'd extend the Sade comparison - she's not only got a bit of Sade in the mellowness of her voice and the sort of laid back tone and tempo of the record, but the stuff's even bringing a bit of Sade's unique genre-less quality to the table. Sade was never towing a popular r&b style by any means, but that's sort of the closest sphere she fit into. I think one could make the same argument about Ware's sound. Ware is more distinctly r&b, but she still has a bit of genre-defiance to her.
Regardless of the comparisons, beautiful and rewarding record.

Just really nails a sound and sticks with it. Somebody huge is going to cosign her by the new year. I watched some live videos and her voice seems to be the real deal.

They're preparing to do a big stateside release in the Spring. Pulling the album seems kinda dumb to me though. Is punishing her early fans really a wise move?

bought tickets to her show coming up in January off the strength of what I heard in that "new music" post. from the few live vids I've seen she sounds good.
