His drum tracks sound like 90's NY hip hop to me. I'm serious. And that's probably cause he loved rnb.

But it's really uncanny to me. Almost every song....you can hear an element of 90's hip hop in the drums. The ambient mic'ing. The syncopated hat, repetitive snare and swinging kick.

but really "heavy" at the same time.
in that he def influenced subsequent hard rock drumming -- despite not being copied much.

someone posted the drum only track of "fool in the rain" a while back on this board -- which i'd never heard before.

*goes to search out some more jbonham drum only tracks*

complete with drum kit being lifted and rotated about 30 ft in the air

I would say that his performance is VERY bonhamesque
