"Turn &"Life after death" into a 10-11 song classic *stipulations*"
Mon May-21-12 03:19 PM by ABROCK33

could "life after death" had as much impact as a single disc?

I honestly think so. My knock against the lp isnt the great songs its the filler and bs songs. I honestly believe the lp would have had an even bigger impact and gained more respect amongst the purist detractors who wanted to hate it (like me) but couldnt if it didnt have any filler.

Obviously the lp went multi plat so I that means many people bought it but this is just for those who really wernt Biggie fans all like that but who have to give it up anyway.

make your own single disc that would be as universal as the 2 disc release. this means that it has to have some at least 3 marketable singles so it cant be all the "hard" songs

the stipulations are

1)Keeping the lead single "Hypnotize"
2)Keep atleast 1 of the other singles "skys he limit", "more money mo problems",
3)choose the other 2 singles
4)"Who shot ya" is eligable

without proper consideration to album sequencing, here's my "ideal" LAD. I can't do any less than what i have here...tried to keep it at 10/11, but nah. sorry OP.

1. Somebody's Got to Die
2. Sky's the limit
3. niggas bleed
4. 10 crack commandments
5. kick in the door
6. long kiss good night
7. hypnotize
8. last day *
9. story to tell*
10. you're nobody...*
11. My downfall
12. notorious thugs
13. What's beef

*these tracks I would prefer if they hadn't been redone, i.e. kept the original sample-based tracks

wouldn't add "who shot ya'" only because it's on the "ready to die" rerelease.

thinking about it, i'd rather have "going back to cali" than "kick in the door". that'd have been a dope single, too, especially at the time.

I think "Goin back to Cali" woulda been HUUUGE!

That would be the only song that couldve done as much damage as "Hypnotize" as the first single IMO

just the sheer audacity of making a song like that at the height of East/West beef was ballsey in itself

I heard that song coming out of a few sound systems walking to and from the record store.

It was crazy.

I thought it was a single. Was it just the b-side and another song was the single?

All I know is that in California, that song got much rotation on the the FM dial. If it wasn't an official single, it certainly got more play than the average single.. Actually, it still does get play on the radio out here.

. . .to get so much regional play.

But yeah, definitely a popular song from that album.

if it was gonna be popular *anywhere* it would be in cali

everyone loves songs where their hometown/region is getting love

personally, i think it would have made a good, happy, "summer fun" kind of song. plus it was intentionally created to speak to the tension in hip-hop between coasts

so it also won on a timeliness factor

as single discs as well
there are so few double albums that actually warrant it.
The Wall is one of the few i can actually defend
