"Who are some new rappers from your region we should pay attn to?"

I spent the last 11 months almost exclusively listening to C$, Krizzle and Kendrick Lamar so I'm seriously out the loop Lesson.

What are they bumpin around your way?

has a lotta talented folks coming out now. Chuuwee & C Plus are making the most noise, w/Chu signed to Amalgam Digital, placements on Statik Selektah's album, etc. & C Plus working closely with Ski Beatz. There's a few others as well, so check em out.

Illy is a very dope emcee & has an ear for great hooks. sometimes he gets a lil too experimental for me but when he's on his emcee shit I dig it 100%.

J.Good can be a lil one dimensional sometimes, but he does his lane very well.

yea, I haven't been as big a fan of his stuff since the name change.

i think on a technical level he's just as dope as both, probably has the best hooks, but in the past year or so he's just kind of stalled while the other two have gotten bigger & bigger

I'm sure you're familiar with Roc Marciano, but I feel like one of his cohorts, Ka, takes Marciano's approach to a different level. Just a nihilistic, but the beats on Grief Pedigree, Ka's debut solo album, compliment the subject matter and delivery wonderfully. I'd go as far to say that this album is like a Brownsville-based neo-noir on wax.

MR. MUHFUCKIN' EXQUIRE, DAS RACIST & DESPOT:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0ijOe3sGEk
"The Last Huzzah"

These guys, along with Danny Brown are probably the best in the business right now at balancing playfulness and seriousness, ignorance and content & new school and old school mentalities.

ACTION BRONSON:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSv0ducC-lM
"Steve Wynn" (you're from Queens, peep the Neptune Diner reference...)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvTxDg_cnJw
"Bird On A Wire" featuring Riff Raff

I understand the heavy Ghostface and Big Pun influence could be a deterrent maybe two years ago, but Bronson has really come into his own this past year and made some great music that is still sometimes a little too throwback-y for my liking, but his writing is very clever and he is an endearing character.

A$AP FERG:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gpAIjwTBLQ
"100 Million Roses"

I think this dude is actually better than Rocky, but don't take my word for it...click the YouTube link.

THE WOODSIDE BOYS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8GAZBh31pY
"Clappin'"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpDxR605lBA
"Good Kid"

Here's a cheap plug for my group. I produce the music and PreZZure emcees. I'm posting this up because you're from Queens and I'm obligated to give this music to anybody I meet who's also from there. Okay, cool.

EDIT: Fuck. Forgot about Homeboy Sandman. Look him up, too, if you haven't.

Word.

Moe is puttin it down, and I love Gully over some DJ Fresh tracks.

Jealous Guys don't get a lot of buzz in the Bay because their style makes no attempt at catering to a traditional Bay rap market (mob music, hyphy, thizz, underground hiphop, etc..).. They are more along the blog/mixtape/non-regional lines where influences are blurred like TDE/A$AP/etc.. They rap over a lot of Clams Casino beats as well as the dude who used to produce for The Weeknd; however, I think their lyricism is notch above those Main Attrakionz dudes.

11. "NYC - Mr. MFN Exquire"
In response to Reply # 0

Hailing from Crown Heights Brooklyn we have my personal pick, Mr. MFN Exquire. Now we all know that New York is home to a crop of skillful but largely derivative & uninspiring acts. And yes I’m a fan of some of those guys but I won’t cosign them publically. This guy is the real deal. I’ve been rocking with dude since ’07 when he dropped “The Big Fat Kill Mixtape”. Back then he was talented but somewhat overlookable because his personality wasn’t on full display. Now he’s not so concerned about out rapping his peers, he’s looking to take you into his own world. Detroit’s Danny Brown is such a fan of his that he dubbed Exquire "the new Biggie". It's a pretty uncomfortable comparison but the general gist is that Exquire is skillful, charismatic, funny, introspective, stylish but still slovenly, far from conventional and all the way BK.
This past Christmas he dropped a fantastic mixtape with a horribly corny name. http://exqomaniarules.bandcamp.com/album/merry-ex-mas-suck-my-dick
This release followed on the heels of his much hyped "Lost in Translation" free album, powered by the Necro produced “Huzzah”. Somewhere between "Lost In Translation" & "Merry X-Mas" Exquire went from "really interesting but not quite there yet" to "that nigga". He’s been killing live shows from NYC to SWSX and will be appearing at the Roots Picnic this year. Not only is he a quality artist but he has a relatively entertaining NSFW rated tumblr http://donteatmymind.tumblr.com/

Sidewalk Chalk - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3_a30kUy64

It's band, so technically not exactly in line with the OG Post, but yeah...

They opened for Jean Grae about a week ago, and they were great...

I hate to be that guy posting a link to his blog, but this is relevant here-- I just wrote up a kind of "beginner's guide to Twin Cities hip hop." I think people generally know about Atmosphere and Brother Ali, but the scene here is really something special-- links and videos and more in the post:

Epp - part of a group TxE, finally released his solo debut after the city had been waiting for over half a decade http://www.freshselects.net/epp-chrome-plated-chronicles

Cassow - a little bit more street, has worked with Danny Brown, Freeway, Smoke Dza, Jake One http://www.freshselects.net/cassow-future-classic-download

Stewart Villain - mostly known as a producer (joints for Freddie Gibbs, The Underachievers, & more) but has been killing shit on the rapping side lately as well http://www.freshselects.net/stewart-villain-smokingtrippy-magic-fades

Myke Bogan - super original style, people who dig old Redman or early Currensy/Wiz Khalifa would be into him, he also has had nothing but great videos so far: http://www.freshselects.net/myke-bogan-here-we-go

Pretty sure Redman pioneered this concept with Redman versus Reggie Noble, but she kinda killed it, though.
