Andre does not have a *clear* edge over Lauryn as an MC. Anyone who thinks so is an idiot. You can have a preference and that's cool, but on the mic Lauryn *could* take Andre out. So if you take that into account with the fact she's a better singer, and even call them par on the acting front (she hasn''t done enough to evaluate really) then there's no mathematical way Andre is the *clear* winner.

she is arguably one of the top 5 ever female Rappers Ever, however he can't say he is one of the top 5 Male Rappers. ever 1)

she is a better singer, he vocally is about a step behind Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx 2)

She has screen pressence in films, he looks to take himself so serious and comes off like a lucky sidekick when acting 3)

they are about neck in neck in playing Guitar 4)

for all of Andre's Charisma, Persona, he just never brought it as a solo act. now in Outkast He is Michael Jordan to Big boi's Scottie Pippen, however listening to the Love Below and him trying to go solo he is more like Horace Grant a 3rd option as to being in the main section.

Lauryn Hill got it right and then choked, but she had it right.

Andre needs to stick to rapping and being in a Group. talented cat, however limited on the solo tip

Foxx and Murphy can actually sing. convincingly. their material was just weaksauce.

guarantee if Rick hooked Eddie up with '82-83 Stone City Band production dude's album would be a cult classic.

now is it Party all the time classic? naw however as a song it has legs.

Jamie foxx got talent and yet most folks think of him impresonating other acts.

I mean Tank pulled his strings in the studio so i stand by what i said.

Andre got a little something in a singles kind of way with a singing a song once on a album kind of way, however Eddie and Jamie are in the same boat because neither can afford to give up there day job to sing full time and you know this Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i loved Eddie Murphy albums especially Bubble Hill, Man his albums use to help me when Uno games and i kept pitchers of Kool aid on standby.

jamie's 2nd album was aight everything else hit and alot of miss, however he is talented, however it just comes off like he is mimicking somebody and he isn't taken too serious as a singer and neither is Eddie and Andre.

>she is arguably one of the top 5 ever female Rappers

>Rappers. ever 1)

This point I don't agree with. I mean, you may be right, but it's not saying anything. That's like saying that a top five female basketball player (other than Cheryl Miller) is better than the tenth or fifteenth best male player (which according to Bill Simmons would be Hakeem the Dream and Kobe). Obviously, this argument makes no sense. Rap is as much a man's game as basketball - maybe not because of physical differences but because men are just more attracted to it on the whole. And in a straight-up comparison, I'd say 3000 is a better rapper than Lauryn, even though she's great. That means a whole lot considering that most of us think of the man as a rapper first and foremost, with everything else being gravy.

>for all of Andre's Charisma, Persona, he just never brought it

I actually agree with all this. He's proven himself a better group artist than solo, and this is the most meaningful category where Lauryn has him.

However, I'd still take 3000 at the end of the day, because in a group setting he has a bag of classics (four by my count, YMMV); Lauryn had one and then blew away in the wind.

its all subjective, however you are part of the Lesson clique so i'd expect the answers you gave. you were either too young or weren't checking for things too much back in hip hop world of the mid to late 90's because L Boogie was huge and she had that it. She had the rapping, singing and ability to broaden her musical landscape.

fugees were huge and she dominated that lane and then went solo and dominated that lane.

she did everything before him YO.

the score was huge back in 96 and then she went solo in 98.

and she is a better actor. FYI Cheryl Miller is One of the Baddest Female Basketball Players Ever and certainly belongs in the discussion amongest the best of the best IMO, they just didn't have a WNBA when she played, and i still feel she is better than her Brother by a country mile.

i was there back in the 90's and I dug Outkast and think 3 Stacks is dope, however he did all of his stuff after Lauryn though. She did it up and had that "IT" she just choked it away. i tell anyone that if Lauryn had have stayed focus she easily would have had the lane that Beyonce and R.Kelly have.

Lauryn Hill covered bases Yo. how you gonna argue against someone who had Hip-Hop props? R&B props? and Pop props? thats Stats and Jewlery and Respect. she gave you the all around game.

Andre Hip Hop and Pop. mix bag in R&B. he should have been bigger, howver what have and could have don't could. miseducation>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the love below and it ain't even close

Don't condescend. I'm not a part of any clique around here. I don't know any of these dudes, I don't even post here that often - my post count mostly comes from the length of time I've been here, not frequency of posting. I'm just a guy with my own opinions, same as you.

>you were either too young
>or weren't checking for things too much back in hip hop world
>of the mid to late 90's because L Boogie was huge and she had
>that it.

In 1996 I was 22 years old and listening to "The Score" - was about my fifth year of listening to hip hop seriously.

>and she is a better actor.

This means anything to you..? Sure doesn't to me. Neither of them is exactly De Niro in his prime. Anyway I'm here to talk music.

>FYI Cheryl Miller is One of the
>Baddest Female Basketball Players Ever and certainly belongs
>in the discussion amongest the best of the best IMO, they just

Which is exactly why I said not her. Do you really think Lauryn is Cheryl Miller's equivalent in hip hop? I don't, even though she's great in her own right.

>i was there back in the 90's and I dug Outkast and think 3
>Stacks is dope, however he did all of his stuff after Lauryn
>though.

That's not what this thread is about. It's about who did it better, not who did it first. To be honest with you if I was going to a desert island I'd rather have any of the first four OutKast albums over every Fugees album plus "Miseducation" (that being the only classic she was ever a part of).

>Lauryn Hill covered bases Yo. how you gonna argue against
>someone who had Hip-Hop props? R&B props? and Pop props?

On the basis of the argument I already made - scroll up.

>miseducation>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the love

I agree with you but it don't even matter.

but I can't hang with your conclusion.

I mean, she is a better singer. She is a better actor. Miseducation was better than The Love Below. I wan to argue that she's not in the top 5 female rappers of all time, but I'm not really sure I can. So fuck it. I accept that. I wan to argue that he is in the top 5 male rappers of all time, but I'll concede and say that he and Big Boi make what is possibly the best rap group of all time, but neither of them are necessarily top 5 solo rappers.

But Dre still wins.
I mean, come on. You know this. Lauryn is no slouch. She's a heavyweight (or at least she was in her day). But she's not fuckin' with Dre.

She was. I'm with you on that.

But act like he wasn't. He came out the box in beast mode. His verse in Black Ice? His verses on ATLiens and Aquemini (LPs)? Stankonia even. She may have been beasting from The Score on, but by 'Kast's second album he was a damn monster.

i mean everything he ended up doing or attempting she did and matter of fact Badu was sorta similar to what Lauryn was about as a Artist.

back in 98 Lauryn Hill had the Music world of Hip Hop,R&B and Pop in the palm of her hands.

she had that "IT" he later got to that peak and Prime in 03.

i mean i have more expectations for him because he seemed like he was on to something and then he choked.

but her run back in 98-99 was something else.

18. "is "amount of good music" a factor? if so, i might lean towards 3K"
In response to Reply # 0

rapper, he's one of the best ever... she's very good tho..

i prob. lean to 3K for production as well.. actually, i def. do..

singing is obviously no contest.. Lauryn is such a sick MC that i might give her the nod for better overall artist.. but i think of 3K as a rapper first and Lauryn as a hybrid.. just because dre has one album where he's mostly singing, it's not like he tried to take it where cee-lo did.. so his consistency as a rapper counts for a little more in my book..

oh well, fuck it, i don't really have a choice.. i didn't vote, i like both of them a lot

I don't know if it's a good one, but it's interesting.

I mean, Lauryn can act better. She can sing better. And not by a little bit, either.

But based on OutKast alone, I think he wins. I mean the Fugees had a classic album. Lauryn did too. OutKast had 4 and then one pretty fucking great one. Even their weak album wasn't bad. It was weak for them, but just Idlewild on its own wasn't a bad album.

got too far without Big Boi.

now that to me clearly shows Lauryn wins this. 3stacks and Big Boi are not much without one or the other. both shine and have moments. i mean straight up Outkast>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the fugees however when breaking down to solo careers Lauryn Hill easily thumps Dre and Big Boi solo.

Wyclef and Andre IMO are about a tie. Clef's singing hurts my ears however he has a little bit more going for him solo than Andre.
