...basically, it's difficult to recontextualize metal-samples into Hip-Hop without it coming across as rap-metal and "noone" wants to comea cross like that... The reason for this is because the distorted guitar is very rarely quiet in metal unless it's some mellow interlude or something-very rarely do you hear drum-lines or basslines by themselves. So basically, sample metal and you get the distorted guitar playing power-chords or notes and then the music will sound metal (or punk). I can't look at the youtube link you provided since I'm at work so I don't know which song it is...

When I tried to make beats in the 90's, I actually sampled swedish death metal band Edge of Sanity due to a really cool "open" drum-fill in one of their songs (can't remember which song but it was on their album with the for metal weird, organic drum-sound-maybe dalecooper knows which album I'm referring to, it was the early 90's)that also SOUNDED right (that's another thing; the sound of drums in metal has been very different from the sound of drums in Hip-Hop even if the difference in the more mid-tempo patterns are somewhat overstated; I know lots of metal-songs that have quite headnoddy beats and I'm not talking nu-metal either)...

I'm guessing "Spectral Sorrows," that has the most organic-sounding drums of their early albums to my ears, and a tighter/higher snare that I could almost picture in a hip hop context. But if not, maybe "Nothing but Death Remains."

but I would have done it anyway... just to mess with people's heads.

I loved "She Watch Channel Zero". I figured they must have gotten away with it because they and Slayer were on the same label.

eg - eminem, lil jon, the roots, even q-tip on amplified, though that was a while back now.

i think its not that popular cos of the whole limp bizkit, linkin park period maybe.

but prob more that theres no need to reach out to the rock audience anymore. or not like there used to be in the 80s. so the incentive isnt really there.

these days, rock and rap get along in different ways. theres no need for ASAP rocky to use guitars when he can perform at coachella or wherever just doing what he already does. rappers crossover to white rock audiences in diff ways now.

Hip Hop can't even afford old Soul and R&B records anymore. There's too many clearance and sampling issues.

it tends to sound like metal or punk instead of hip hop most of the times. As oppose to if you sample jazz, soul or funk it's easier to flip into a hip hop sound. I mean it sounds good but alienates some hip hop fans I think

and could probably sample lots of punk or heavy metal but still stay in their zone. But it seems although music listeners are more open to different kinds of music and sounds than ever, radio plays less of a range than ever. I think there's plenty of ppl pushing their sounds but it's not going to get on radio most of the time. And without it getting on the radio or somehow sweeping the underground it's hard for a style to expand more.

unless there is some stank on it, then its useless and if a rapper samples it, then it comes off very gimmicky and like its a trend.

remember Hip Hop Metal?

nobody wants to be seen as Limp Bizket and Limkin Park,etc.. that mess felt contrived and gimmicky

unless you do a Kid rock with it then its kinda cool.
