This is a nice album but it isn't touching Marcberg in terms of creating a mood or feeling. I'd also argue it's much better produced as well. I like Apollo Brown (his use of strings in particular) but some of the drums on this aren't that great. MMG is definitely a label whose artists will get a listen though.
iont rank emcees but as far as my favorites he's WAY up there

not many, to be honest his only real misstep to me is Bon Appeteit and the others tha wern't as good as his first two are still pretty good

Starchild could have been a really good EP but I think it was a little overhyped because "Bon Appetit" was so terrible. People were happy to hear O.C. sounding decent but some of the beats were lacking. This new project is legitimately dope though.

It starts dragging about 2/3 of the way through. It's enjoyable for the most part but I'd rather listen to an album by this new breed of neo-boom bap artists (Diamond District, Oddisee, Danny Brown, Black Hippy, Curren$y). It doesn't change how I feel about O.C. much (a good, not great MC) but it's still worth a spin.

i do want to learn more about mixing and mastering.. time on the other hand is NOT my friend.. im switching between work/fatherhood and all kinds of stuff
i like lo-fi but also want my tracks to be proper mixed.. so now i hooked up with my brothers from another and they are schooling me in the basics..
sh*t eq and compression alone can make a difference.. im learning tho..

Trophies and the El P albums are the best of the year with Gangrene & Ka.
that said, Bon Appetit has joints. 'Paradise' is one of my favorite O.C. songs ever. and Buckwild hooked up some other traditional DITC themed songs on the album too. sure there's a few glaring wack spots but it's nowhere near the travesty it's painted as.

Gas Mask, Dice Game and Trophies all age really well, and I think Ugly Heroes is going to have the same effect. I think part of that is because they don't aim to sound current anyway, so they stand up based on how good/bad they are, instead.

OC ripped every track here. I might just cop every single Apollo Brown album after hearing this and 12RTD The Brown Tape. I feel like a sucker waiting for Kweli & Kanye's albums when I could've heard this a year ago.
